Hello everyone: Seems I am stuck in NYRENSSE. I need to unsub just for a few days. I tried it the right way, but because I have two email addresses in this computer, Rootsweb brings up my other address and says I am not a subscriber....any suggestions as how to unsub one email address instead of another? Thanks, DS __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Thousands of Stores. Millions of Products. All in one Place. http://shopping.yahoo.com/
The 1810 Census for the Town of Charleston, Montgomery Co., NY was transcribed by Sandra Lott Burns and is now on my website. It lists about 860 heads of household plus the number of persons in twelve categories: five male age groups, five female age groups, other free persons, and slaves. It has been arranged in easy-to-read columns. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~clifflamere/Census/CEN-Charl-1810.htm If you haven't seen the rest of my website yet, hit HOME at the bottom of the file Cliff
Does anyone in Rensselaer County have a record of where Phineas Stewart owned land in the Petersburg area? Word has it that he gave all of his sons land, and they all sold out and moved west except Terry, Athol, and Latham. I am also looking to find out just how Terry got his land. I can prove in the Court House that he had land, and sold it, but no where can I find out just how he got it. Need this information for the DAR. Also this Terry married a girl by the name of Betsey Nichols. In the 1800 census it shows a John Nichols living near the land that Phineas owned. Might be possible that Terry married the daughter of this John We could use some proof of their marriage, and just how Terry got his land, and just where Phineas owned his land. Also states in the Court House that Phineas died, left no will, and his oldest son Elias disposed of the land, but there is no mention of the children of Phineas. Need some help if I can get it. Thanks for anything anyone can do for me. Charles R. Vogler

Cliff, Can you give the entire URL for this LDS site, as well as the sub-link for the remaining parts of the 1890 census. BTW, I recently looked at your site , very nice. Thought I would post this again just in case. Searching for a WILLIAM JOSEPH LEONARD died 1895 who married MARY HELEN LYNCH died 1890. They married on March 17, 1883 at St. John's church in Rensselaer, NY Witnesses: Patrick and Catherine Quick. William and Mary LEONARD had one child: MARY ANN LEONARD born October 7, 1887 and baptised at St. John's church. The child was orphaned at age 8 and lived with an "Aunt Kate" who had several children with red hair. She then went to live with her grandmother but it is unknown whether maternal or paternal. She eventually lived either in a convent with nuns or an orphanage. Both the LEONARD and LYNCH families were Irish Catholic. Would appreciate any information regarding either family.

I have just posted 5400 names that Bob Coomber extracted from 690 obituaries (1956-1987) for Little Falls, NY in Herkimer Co. The relatives of the deceased who were mentioned in the obituaries (including parents who may have been born in the 1800s) were not necessarily from that city or county. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~clifflamere Go to "Vital Records - Deaths" and look for Herkimer Co. Hi all! I found a connection on my Bates side (Hi Fran!) and thought I would try the other line and see if anyone recognizes it. My gg-gm Lydia Howard married Stephen Bates in Troy, Nov. 1864. Lydia was born July 1845, Rensselaer Co (not Troy), I believe to Abraham Howard and Catherine Blanchard, though I'm trying to confirm that. Abraham married Catherine Blanchard April 1842 in Schodack, according to town records. According to Scodack interrments, Abram Howard died in 1847 and was buried in the Log Meeting House cemetery. This may not be my Abraham, but there isn't another Abraham Howard in the 1850 census, nor is there a Catherine Howard. There was also a Mary Catherine Howard born to Abraham and Catherine Aug 1846 in Schodack. I've basically lost Lydia from the time she was born until she married. If you follow the Howards or Blanchards, I'd love to hear from you. Thanks! Cyndy Please update your address books. My new email is cyfinnie@bigfoot.com
Hi, This weekend I purchased a Troy City Directory from 1974. I know it's a bit late for most genealogy, but if anyone would like me to look up a name or family and send a transcription, I would be happy to do so. I also have a 1914 Albany city directory and a 1957 Albany County directory with Bethlehem, Delmar and Voorheesville. E mail me directly with requests at: jennolmstead@mybizz.net
Hi Cliff! Regarding your question about New Berlin Central School. It could be the town of Berlin, NY, instead of New Berlin. There is a Berlin town in Rensselaer County. My mother and her siblings graduated from the high school, Berlin Central School, there beginning in 1946. Berlin is almost on the Massachusetts line, right next to North Adams, MA. The school was still there when I attended cross-county rival New Lebanon Central School in the early 80's and is still there now. Hello List, I am searching for any information or any descendants of VINCENT family who lived in Stephentown late 1700's and early 1800's. Death certificate of Sarah Jane VINCENT THOMPSON states that she is the daughter of Johnathan VINCENT b. Stephentown (abbr. unable to read, possibly Ceni) and Elizabeth YOUNGS. Sarah Jane's father's name, in local records AND in family correspondence, is actually either Joshua or Elijah Joshua VINCENT. Joshua (as he was known by family) was in Orleans County NY by 1816; I estimate that he was born abt. 1788. Would love to hear from anyone with further information on this family. Willing to share what I have. Thank you, Sharon

I have recently found out some new info on my gggg-grandfather, Henry YEAGER (YAEGER, YAGER, JAGER) that he was born in Troy, Rensselaer Co, NY on Jan. 5, 1775. I am trying to find the names of his parents and siblings. Henry later moved to Schoharie, NY then in 1828 to Lackawanna Co, PA where he died June 26, 1861. He married Mary DINGS, born March 1, 1779 in Sullivan Co, NY and died March 23, 1829 in Lackawanna Co, PA. Can anyone help me find Henry's parents and siblings? At the time Rensellaer Co had not been formed and Troy was called Rensselaerwick. The YAGERS: John YAGER - (no male children < 16 years in 1790) Coonradt YAGER - had some males < 16 in 1790 Wendel YAGER - had some males < 16 in 1790 You might go to http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyrensse/index.htm and search on YAGER. Apparently, the New Berlin Central School District is not in Rensselaer Co. I was sent information this morning that there was one in Chenango Co., NY. But, using an online nationwide gazetteer, I found a New Berlin in Columbus Co., North Carolina. Columbus is mentioned in the bible. North Carolina also has a city of Columbus. The information was sent to me as being within the counties represented by my website. I don't believe that it is. Cliff
Can any recognize any of these names as being from Rensselaer Co.? Was there a New Berlin Central School here in 1937? The following bible records were sent to me on Saturday. Although the owner of the bible is trying to sell it, the transcribed records themselves will be very valuable to someone, perhaps someone on this list. There could be typing errors, like Llyod instead of Lloyd. Or the writer of the bible records could have made the errors. Lisa, I have some YAWGERs, would that be the same, but with a spelling variant? As follows: Philip YAWGER: Born Jun 22, 1753 in either Coblentz-on-the-Rhine in Germany, or on a large estate at Flemington, NJ Philip Yawger was youngest of five brothers; their names were John, Peter, William, Henry, Philip. Philip, founder of the New York branch of the Yawger family, came to America from Germany between the years 1750 and 1760 Philip emigrated from New Jersey to Owego, NY, and then on to Springport, NY. Settled on Lot #86 of the East Cayuga Reservation. Complete family records, contained in family bible printed in German, were brought from Coblentz, Germany -- brought to Cayuga Co. in 1801, by Philip Yawger, ... descended to his daughter, Ann Stout, who carried it to Berkshire, Tompkins Co. Brooke-The selling of future income, or an annuity is certainly possible. It is a form of a futures contract--and would be sold at a lump sum price at a discount. This way the soldier would get cash for land, etc purchases. This not an unusual transaction, even today. The contract could be filed somewhere--state agency or bank or ? An interesting search it will be for you! These directories are a very good genealogical finding aid; although they seldom give family relationships, you can tell from them which people of a surname, even a very common one, resided at the same address as which other people of that surname. Given the time to study them more closely, you might be able to determine which people of OTHER surnames lived at the same address as well. Good luck! Lin
