I forgot to mention that the directory I have is 1975. I've gotten several requests for a lookup, so I wanted to clarify the year....1975. Thanks, Jenn
Hi, Two things, I still have a city directory for Troy, which includes Cohoes, Waterford, Watervliet, Green Island and parts of Clifton Park. If anyone would like me to transcribe a name or two, please contact me directly by e mail. The other, and I hope I don't get bashed for inappropriate use of this mailing list, I'm wondering if anyone out there has an old Troy City directory they wouldn't mind selling. I'm desperate to have one, 1840-1940 would be my range of extreme interest, but would be glad to hear from anyone else with other years. Thanks people. Sincerely, Jenn Olmstead jennolmstead@mybizz.net http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~jennolmstead/

Hello, everyone... Migration trails are of interest to all of us who are family historians. Here is a bio. for a man who became noteworthy in Wisconsin. He was born and raised in Rensselaer County, NY! You just never know where our ancestors can turn up! Enjoy. Susan Willig ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The following biography of ALBERT FILKINS has been posted to the LACROSSE Co WIGenExchange Bio-Bin along with nearly 20,000 others nationwide. http://www.genexchange.org/bioregco.cfm?state=WI&county=LaCrosse Biography of ALBERT FILKINS SOURCE: Biographical History of LaCrosse, Trempealeau and Buffalo Counties, WI. Lewis: 1892, p 367 One of the pioneers of LaCrosse County, having settled here as early as 1856. He is a native of Rensselaer County, NY, born 16 Feb 1830, and is a son of Peter and Ann ELiza (VAN DER COOK) FILKINS. His father was a farmer, and served as a soldier in the war of 1812; his grandfather, Jacob FILKINS, alos followed agricultural pursuits and was probably a descendant of the English family bearing his name, who settled in this country in colonial days. Ann Eliza VAN DER COOK was a daughter of Gilbert VAN DERCOOK, who served in the war of 1812; his progenitors belonged to the Knickerbocker stock of NY. Albert FILKINS was reared in the Empire State, and obtained a fair education in the common schools. At the age of 22 years, he began to learn the carpenter*s trade, and worked throughout the State of NY as a journeyman. He spent one year in Belvidere, IL, and in the spring of 1855 came to LaCrosse, and the following year located here permanently. He erected, among many other structures, the Exposition Building, the Wheel & Seeder Works and the State street engine house. Mr. FILKINS was married in this city, to Miss Mary E. PIERCE, a native of Saratoga County, NY, and a daughter of Philip and Parmelia (HULING) PIERCE, who emigrated to this county from the State of NY about the year 1854. To Mr. and Mrs. FILKINS has been born one son, Rockwell E. FILKINS, who is associated with his father in business. Our worthy subject is a member of the Builders* Exchange, and used every effort to assist in its organization and to make it a permanent affair. He belongs to the First Baptist Church, to which he contributes a liberal support. The Lynne I was referring to is Lynne Grice whose father and my father lived just doors apart on 2nd St. in So. Troy. Since they both were born in 1908 and went to the same schools, it is pretty possible that they knew each other. It is definitely a small world. I am happy to announce we have 200 more entries on line at GenExchange (see below for url) for the 1880 federal census for Troy, making it almost 1000 entries on line. We can thank the following volunteers for their hard work transcribing the records from the census sheets to a spreadsheet template: Mary Ann McConnell, Matt Bloomfield and Lynne. They are responsible for the latest additions. We now have 10 volunteers transcribing the 1880 census and 7 volunteers doing 1870. If anyone else would like to help, just let me know. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA GenExchange Rensselaer County and Westchester County Coordinator http://www.genexchange.org/county.cfm?state=ny&county=rensselaer http://www.genexchange.org/county.cfm?state=ny&county=westchester Researching: Connors/OConnor, Flynn, Campbell, McEntee, Carter, Booth, Boyle, Smith, ORourke, Cullinan, Martin, Manning, Fahey, Healey http://freepages.misc.rootsweb.com/~nymets/
Would anyone out there tell me where I might find the death records of the Petersburg area. They are not in the Petersburg Town Hall, due to a fire many years ago. Thanks. Charles R. Vogler
Charles, It would depend on the year. After 1880, the records would be on file at the NYS Archives in Albany, although the Town Clerks did not all send in the records in the first few years. Searching for a birth and the name of parents of Charles W. Bates in Albany. He would have been born in the late 1890's or very early 1900s. Thank You, Barbara
Darin Flansburg has transcribed the Index to the Albany Co. Book of Wills, Vol. 15, for the years 1853 - 1856. It is now online. He had previously transcribed Vol. 14 for the years 1850-1852. Darin plans to continue working on other years of this index. They will be a welcome addition to what he has already contributed. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~clifflamere/Wills/W-Ind-AlbCo-15.htm Cliff
Pam Butler has contributed 37 records from the Woodlawn Cemetery just outside of Valatie in northern Columbia Co. They are now online. You can find them next to the Kinderhook records that she contributed. In case you missed it, a few days ago I also posted her records from the Prospect Hill Cemetery in Guilderland, Albany Co. These are all important contributions because, except for some in Prospect Hill, they are records that have never been online before. That could also be said of the Albany Co. cemetery contributions by Mary Ann & William Hildebrand, and Barry Schinnerer. All of these can be found in the "Vital Records - deaths" section on my website. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~clifflamere/ The Woodlawn file was not loading onto my computer easily when I put it online. I think it is a temporary thing relating to RootsWeb, possibly a problem with the advertising banners. However, if it will not seem to finish loading, click on Reload or Refresh and it will appear shortly after that. Cliff
Pam Butler has transcribed 46 gravestones in the Kinderhook Cemetery, Columbia Co., NY. They are alphabetically arranged. The major names are Hallenbeck, Minshell and Tobias, but there are many others. Thanks, Pam !! http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~clifflamere/Cem/CEM-Kinder.htm Cliff Lamere Albany, NY
Susan Mulvey has transcribed the 1766 Nobletown List of Losses which is a companion document to the 1766 Account of Supplies. Both are understood better by examining the 1757-1767 Noble Town Proprietors Meetings. All three relate to the boundary war between Massachusetts and New York, and they can be found in "Other Lists of People". http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~clifflamere/ I have also posted LDS microfilm titles and numbers for Deeds and Wills of Montgomery Co. These were contributed by Leita Brown who also submitted the list of LDS microfilms of Naturalizations of Montgomery Co. which were posted earlier this week. Cliff
Thanks a lot Susan, Your input to the genealogical community is unbelievably kind. I for one appreciate all that you do greatly! I have lots of miscellaneous SISSON data in my collection and this adds to it nicely. Best regards. MOSLEY, daughter of Pardon Mosley, a farmer in the town of Hoosick. The Sisson family moved north to Washington County. I am happy to say we now have 262 1870 Troy census records on line at the GenExchange Rensselaer County site (url below my name). I would like to thank Laura Smith and Lynn Julian for their dedication and for taking time out of their daily lives to transcribe these records so they could be put on line for everyone to use. If anyone else would like to help in this effort, email me and I'll send you a page of the census. Since the 1870 census has an index, I can send you a page with your ancestors on it. Thanks again Laura and Lynn. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA GenExchange Rensselaer County and Westchester County Coordinator http://www.genexchange.org/county.cfm?state=ny&county=rensselaer http://www.genexchange.org/county.cfm?state=ny&county=westchester
Pam Butler has submitted 65 tombstone records for the Prospect Hill Cemetery in Guilderland, NY. Some of these are not present in the other online partial transcription of this cemetery. The records, as well as Pam's valuable notes about almost every person, were put online this morning. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~clifflamere/Cem/CEM-Prosp-Guild.htm Cliff Lamere Albany, NY http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~clifflamere/
Leita Brown has submitted a list of 47 LDS microfilm titles and film numbers dealing with the subject of Naturalization and Citizenship in Montgomery Co., 1810-1955. She believes that posting this list will save some people a lot of time. I agree. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~clifflamere/LDS-MontCo-Nat.htm In the next week or so, similar lists of Montgomery Co. wills and deeds will also be posted. They, too, have been submitted by Leita. Since this is the first naturalization item that I am posting, it will be placed in the Miscellaneous section on my website. It could be moved at a later date. Wills and deeds will be located in sections by those same titles. Cliff http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~clifflamere/
If you enter a name that is not in the database, you will get the message you received.
