Brooke; I would be interested in hearing more about the Daley's that you found. Lynn From: Brooke Myers <bmyers@du.edu> To: NYRENSSE-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [NYRENSSE] a select (hard to find) few of St. Joe's cemetary graves Date: Fri, 05 Jan 2001 10:06:44 -0700 Hi Listers, I visited Troy a few weeks ago while home for the holidays and went back to St. Joe's to find an old family plot in the "swamp area" of the cemetary. I'd never seen the grave, am not yet positive how these ancestors are related (but I have an idea), and while I was wrestling with the thick overgrowth of trees and thorns, happened to snap several pictures of other graves in that area. Because of the snow and limited accessibility, I was not able to take pictures of all the little plots. Either they were too small and covered by snow, or were not marked and a part of bigger, surrounding plots. In any case, I received the pictures back and until I can find a scanner and donate them to a Renss. Co. website, I can transcribe the information the best I can tell from the pictures that I took. I am at work now, and cannot remember all the names of gravestones I took, but I can say that they were older stones, and in good condition (maybe protected by the overgrowth) except a few. Some names off the top of my head are KEENAN, OTTERSON (some of my line), BYRNES, RYAN, DALEY, MCCORMICK (?), etc. There are several more which I will post on a later message, but I wanted to get this message _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com

My gg-grandfather worked for the Griswold Opera House in Troy abt 1899.. Does anyone know the history of this place? Could someone direct me to a good web site to search? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Barbara
Every year after Christmas, we get many new listers who are brand new to genealogy. They get on line and from their questions you know they are newbies. I am not trying to put them down but am trying to be helpful by suggesting that all our new members check out these informative sites: ROOTSWEB'S GUIDE TO TRACING FAMILY TREES (RWGuide) http://rwguide.rootsweb.com/ Irish, Scots-Irish, and Scottish http://www.rootsweb.com/~rwguide/lesson21.htm They are extremely well put together and offer a lot of help. We all started out once upon a time and when I started these lessons were not available. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA GenExchange Rensselaer County and Westchester County Coordinator http://www.genexchange.org/county.cfm?state=ny&county=rensselaer http://www.genexchange.org/county.cfm?state=ny&county=westchester Researching: Connors/OConnor, Flynn, Campbell, McEntee, Carter, Booth, Boyle, Smith, ORourke, Cullinan, Martin, Manning, Fahey, Healey http://freepages.misc.rootsweb.com/~nymets/
Hi, Cousins, I know this is off-topic, and if you're annoyed at me for this, I'm sorry, but I feel we need to help protect each other whenever possible. With the recent virus scares going around, I thought I ought to share this. Several weeks ago I received a Trojan Horse-type virus from a fellow lister. Fortunately, my now two-year-old virus program caught most of it. There was an occasional odd little glitch here and there that bothered me but I had no idea what was going on until I later heard from this person who told me she had inadvertently passed this virus on and referred me to a website with a program that might help remove it. It did work! Thank goodness. And I want to share it with you. It's a Trojan Horse Remover and there's a 30-day free trial offer. The website is www.simplysup.com/tremover My sister was also having some kind of problem with her computer. They had tried a number of things but it kept getting worse. I sent her this info. and it found a Horse somewhere in her Windows setup. All is well now. Stay healthy -- you AND your computer -- and have a Wonderful New Year. Lyn
Hello Listers, I am hoping someone will recognize the following names and perhaps be able to add to the information I have or maybe give me a clue as to where I should look next. BTW, I am always willing to share information!! My ggrandmother was Amanda Malvina PEASTER,born in Nassau (Brainhards Bridge), NY., April 22, 1831, m. James Harvey SMITH, b. May 28, 1828, on Feb. 18, 1849. One of her sisters was Sarah Ann PEASTER, and she married James' brother, Hiram SMITH. Other siblings of Amanda are Cornelius, Theodore, Marie and Gordon PEASTER. Amanda and Sarah, with their husbands lived in Hancock, MA. Biographical Reviews of James Harvey and Franklin SMITH, indicate that their father was John PEASTER and his father was Isaac PEASTER. In some places the name is spelled PIESTER or DePEYSTER, It is also noted that they were of German heritage and that Isaac emigrated from Germany along with his two brothers. Either Isaac or John, is said to be a mason or farmer (or perhaps both). The father of James and Hiram SMITH, (Sylvester) built a large brick house in Hancock and I wonder if he was assisted in the masonery by the PEASTERS. The farm was thereafter known as the "Brick House Farm" and I would love to learn more about it. If you have any information or suggestions of where I might find assistance, I would be delighted. Thank You and Happy New Year! Margaret in NV

>From my 1876 map, looks like St. Mary's Catholic is closest. It looks like the corner of Washington and Church streets. I don't understand the question about Ward 7 and St. Peter's church? But I did find the church in Ward 7 on the corner of Green and Hutton Streets. If anyone would like a copy of the map, I have it on two jpeg files and it takes a graphic program to open and print them. I can send them to you as an attachment to an email. It is a good map, with the wards outlined and the streets easy to read. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA, listowner GenExchange Rensselaer County and Westchester County Coordinator http://www.genexchange.org/county.cfm?state=ny&county=rensselaer http://www.genexchange.org/county.cfm?state=ny&county=westchester Researching: Connors/OConnor, Flynn, Campbell, McEntee, Carter, Booth, Boyle, Smith, ORourke, Cullinan, Martin, Manning, Fahey, Healey http://freepages.misc.rootsweb.com/~nymets/

Is anyone familiar with Robert Morehead, born in New York about 1843-1846, enlisted in New York's Co. H 2d Inf. April 22/ May 1, 1861 at Troy NY. He then enlists in Md Co. F. lst Cav. June 13, 1863 as Charles RUSSELL and is discharged 12 Aug 1865. There is a pension application (Invalid) filed in Michigan 17 August 1891 for him showing both names. This appears to be the Robert Morehead who married Sarah Finney Keeney in Mecosta County, Michigan Dec. 26, 1882. He is in the 1890 Michigan Soldiers & Sailors Census in Rodney, Martiny Twp., Mecosta Co. Mich., then in "U.S. Civil War Soldiers Living in Michigan in 1894" in Edmore Village, Montcalm County, Michigan. Sarah Finney/Keeney/Morehead dies in New York "a few months before June 1904." Sarah was 5 years old (b. Penn.) in the Mehoopany Twp, Wyoming Co., Penn census for 1850. She marries Schuler F. Keeney before November 1863, probably in Wyoming Co. I am trying to find Sarah and Robert's death information. Thank you for any assistance Elaine, Minneapolis MN
Hello, I there anyone on the list researching the Curtis and Brockway family of Stephentown? Thanks, Sherry
Do you have an age for him at any time? Do you have a middle initial? My guess is that he was born here because the McChesneys have been here since back in the 1700s. I have 7 Rensselaer County William McChesneys in my database with births from about 1750+/-10 years to 1831. I am only related to the McChesney family by marriage but have what information that relates to sibs of my ancestors. At 09:58 PM 12/30/00 -0500, Linda K.
