    1. [Rensselaer] More 1880 census on line
    2. Pat Connors
    3. We now have the 12th ward of Troy up on line at the freepages site below through K. Thanks to our volunteers who are doing about ten pages of the census every day, at this rate we should have the whole census done within a month or two. The more volunteers the quicker it is going. When it is complete, I will combine the wards for just one census which will make it easier to search. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA, listowner http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~nymets/

    1. [Rensselaer] Babcock, Green(e), Morey and Bly
    2. FamHistory
    3. Hello List, Haven't posted in awhile and decided I'd throw this query back out to the group. Any know anything about these Babcock, Green(e), Morey or Bly families? Sorry if posts twice -- the first message was sent under an unsubscribed email address BABCOCK, Jonathan C. b:April 6, 1800 Stephentown, NY area m:(1st) c1824 Ann MOREY (Ann died after birth of daughter Jane Ann BABCOCK), (2nd) c1827 Lucinda GREEN(E). Jonathan and Lucinda had the following children: Lucinda b:May 15, 1828 in Stephentown area, Orlando b:1830 d:1833 Henriette, NY, Jonathan C b:1832 d:1836 Henriette, NY, Almira b:1837 in Henriette, NY, Sarah b:1839 in Henriette, NY, Olive b: 1842 in Henriette, NY, Jonathan C. b:1844 in Henriette, NY. My unsolved mystery revolves around the parentage of Jonathan C., Ann MOREY and Lucinda GREEN(E). Here's the leads I currently have. Jonathan C. BABCOCK's parents are very likely John BABCOCK b: 1770 (son of Silas BABCOCK and Phoebe WOOD) and Amie BLY (Daughter of Jonathan BLY and Eunice SPENCER -- Eunice's parents were Peter SPENCER and Margaret CLARK). John and Amie reportedly had atleast two children; John B. b: June 20, 1804 d: March 24, 1857 married Mercy CHASE and Jonathan Clark b: April 6, 1800 married Ann MORE on Jan 5, 1824. The only trick is I have not found any confirmation of the above except what I received from another researcher. I have no leads as to the parents of Ann MOREY/MORE and Lucinda GREEN(E). Any help, references, etc., on any of these individuals would be greatly appreciated. Judy

    2. There are a couple references to Salisbury's in Lauretta Harris's book VITAL RECORDS OF THE TOWN OF SCHODACK - including the marriage of a John J. Salisbury, son of John to Eytie Van Buren, dau of Martin - married at Muitzkill 1808. I also recall that the undertaker in Castleton in 1871 was a Salisbury. 1. [Rensselaer] More 1880 census records on line for Troy
    2. Pat Connors
    3. Yes, I have started to upload new records from the 12th ward, Abbott to Byson. See my freepages URL below. The 12th ward has a total of 4,013 entries (people) which include 427 dwellings and 730 families. When both wards are on line you will have the following to research: 8,570 entries, 853 dwellings and 1,547 families! Bob McConihe, Lynn Grice, Dorsey Clark and Matt Bloomfield are the volunteers who are responsible for transcribing the 12th ward. Bob informed me that he has now transcribed 100 census pages (5,000 entries)! Lynn is right behind him with her numbers. These people are to be commended for their dedication to the genealogy community. If you see an ancestor in our records, let me know and I'll send you the census page where they are listed. In turn, I ask you transcribe another census page. Or, if you would like to just volunteer in this project, email me privately. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA, listowner http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~nymets/

    1. [Rensselaer] More 1880 census data
    2. Pat Connors
    3. We have just completed transcribing the 12th ward for Troy from the 1880 census. As already announced, we completed the 6th ward and it is on line at my freepages site. Today I revamped the site to get ready to start getting the 12th ward on line. I have added a map of the 6th ward which can be copied and printed by you so you can see exactly where your ancestors lived. When I start putting the 12th ward on line, I will make the announcement on this list. FYI, yesterday we started on the 9th ward. If anyone would like to help, just email me privately and I can send you a census page and a template to transcribe the info into. Would love to hear feedback over whether you find the site easy to navigate and especially if you found any ancestors. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~nymets/

    2. Patti Smith
    3. Hello Listers, Ned had given me a suggestion of looking up family on the 1850 and 1860 census INDEX. He was going to the LDS library today and he offered to look them up but unfortunately I didn't get the email until this morning. Does anyone have access to the 1850 and 1860 INDEX for New York State? I have called 3 libraries in a 10 mile radius and none of them have historical indexes. If no one has access, I will head into downtown next week where I am sure(fingers crossed!) they have the indexes. Thanks, Patti Smith

    3. Looking for a Taylor family in Troy, Rensselaer County New York, 1840-1860. ALEXANDER HENRY MUHLENBURG TAYLOR was born in Manchester, England 1840, father was John Lyman Oliver Taylor born in NY and mother was Margareth Elizabeth Pelham born in England. Alexander came to US when he was two, his parents were supposed to have died in a shipping or boating accident and he was raised by his uncle. He received a large inheritance in 1861, joined the Army from New York City where he was a mercantile clerk. No known siblings or other family. His family was "close personal friends" of Roscoe Conkling and he spent summers in Albany at or near the Conkling home. The connection is unknown to the Muhlenburg family but I think a Mahlon Taylor from NJ may have served in the Revolution with Gen Muhlenburg and there are some records in Augusta Co., Va., of a Mahlon Taylor. Appreciate any help.

They are in 2 or 3 old filing cabinets, in alphabetical order. It may be worth a call or letter. I've gone there and seen them. 2. Patti Smith
    3. Hello All, I have a question regarding steamboating in New York in the 1850's-1860's. My GGgrandfather listed his occupation as "Steamboating on the Hudson River", when he entered the Navy during the Civil War in 1862 and he enlisted from the state of "New York". He was born in Troy, NY and I am trying to locate when he left Troy and where he went to. I don't find him in the census for 1850 or 1860 in Troy (Renssealer County). I am then trying to think of where he might have gone to work on steamboats on the Hudson in New York. I don't know how much relevance it has but his younger brother ended up in Webster, MA. in the 1870's. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Thanks, Patti Smith
