Can anyone tell me what Ward Hoosick and 9th is in?? Thanks in advance. Linda
Can anyone tell me where I might locate the records of this church from the early 1800's? I believe it might have been a Baptist Church. Thank you. Cathy

The URL for Reformed colleges is: http://www.rca.org/welcome/partners/higherlearning.html It might also be the church's headquarters, although I couldn't tell that from from browsing their website. Rensselaer County land records show that Cyrus and Eleanor Davenport bought and sold land in the 1820s and 1830s. I would like to contact someone with information on this family to see if they connect with my ancestor, Benona/Benoni Davenport. One of Benona's sons was named Cyrus. Vern Erickson
Just wanted to give a very big thank you to Pat and her merry band of volunteers... I've found my Quinns in the 6th ward, and both my Delapps and Ryans in the 12th ward! This has helped me to narrow down the dates of death for several of my elusive ancestors. Mary Yonkers NY
Does anyone know what the enumeration district number for the 1910 census for Hoosick Falls, NY? I know there are a possibility of three different ones but it would be a lot easier if I knew which one to look at. Thanks In Advance, Mabel Hidalgo
Lisa, Wynantskill is on the southern edge of Troy. Arthur C.M. Kelly transcribed and published bp. and mg. records for 1794-1899. The church apparently formed in 1794, because that is the first year for which the church had a pastor according to Kelly. The church still exists. You should be able to find it by searching for Wynantskill in a list of 980 North American Reformed Churches on my website. They are listed under "Churches". http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~clifflamere/ The church may not have the earliest records any longer. Most of the early records have been sent to New Brunswick, NJ (a seminary?) for safe keeping against fires and other dangers. They may be available on microfilm there. LDS has the records microfilmed. Barb Baxter has them listed on her site. The ones microfilmed were 1794-1867. http://www.pinehurst.net/genealogy/rensselaer/search/rensselaer.htm Cliff Wes--Lisa Woodward wrote: > Hello Listers, > I was looking at the baptism records of the Wynantskill Reformed > Protestant Dutch church 1794-1867 on the Rensselaer Co genweb site. Have hoped that there would be some infomation from Stephenstown.. Am looking for Moffat(Moffit). My Chila or Phila Moffat married Anson Gregory..she was born about 1800..says Stephenstown.--and is buried in Town of New Lisbon in Otsego Co. NY. Any info would be appreciated. I only know that Hosea Moffat from that area is probably not her father...perhaps grandfather. When people have asked me for advice about using the computer for genealogy... Ive told them to try every possible lead. I shared this story off-line with a lister, and thought I would share it with all of you. My great grandmother's name was Crowe. All of her relatives had emigrated from Emly, County Tipperary, to Troy (I thought). I saw a posting for Crowes in Australia. I sent my family information figuring that maybe this gal from Australia would file it, someone else would send her information... and she would remember my family data, maybe see something that connected. I got an email back from this gal from Melbourne telling me that her husband was my third cousin. And he was! This led me to discover an entire family branch I hadn't known. I then "met" a fellow by the name of O'Brien through an Albany cousin the parents of O'Brien from Sydney and her husband had kept in touch, being first cousins. I mentioned the Sydney people to my Melbourne connection and vice versa. Never heard of each other. I passed along their addresses and phone numbers. Both families had grown up in Melbourne (O'Brien moved to Sydney because of career)... they were second cousins... and neither family had known the other was alive. They met for dinner, and I- the Yank who had "introduced" the cousins- was toasted at their meeting. Not only did I locate more than 100 Australian relatives... I helped them to meet each other. And only because I followed what I thought was an impossible lead.
Hello Listers, I was looking at the baptism records of the Wynantskill Reformed Protestant Dutch church 1794-1867 on the Rensselaer Co genweb site. I have some questions about this church. 1. Does this church still exist? What is the address and phone number? 2. If the church doesn't exist, is there a Family History Center that would have these records? 3. Where is Wynantskill from Troy? 4. Are there records prior to 1794? Thank you for your help. Sincerely, Lisa Woodward Freeport, Illinois wlwoodward@juno.com
I found an ancestor in the 1870 census living in Troy. So I went to the 1890 Troy City Directory at ancestry.com, and found the son working as a salesman at 3 Cannon Pl, with rooms at 56 Fourth. I then did a search to see who else was at 3 Cannon and there were over 500 hits! I tried the 4th St address and found over 100 hits. Can someone tell me what huge business was a 3 Cannon Place in 1890, and was 56 Fourth a big company boarding house? Thanks for any help/advice. Joan
Watervliet is not considered to be South Troy. The website given in the most recent email on this topic is sponsored by the USGS (US Geological Survey), which happens to be the topographical map makers for the country. The name of the MAP on which Watervliet is located is the *Troy South* map (a map which includes both sides of the Hudson River). They carefully do not say South Troy which would mislead people. The Troy North map would include Lansingburgh (= North Troy before 1900) and land north of Watervliet, which is the city of Cohoes. Watervliet was previously known as West Troy. Cliff
* My question is regarding the actual page of the census and also county info. > I found this William Gray in the Albany census in West Troy, NY. * Patti, at the site below, Watervliet is considered South Troy and is in Albany Co. This site is great for locating place names, both current and historic. Vivian, South Bend, IN http://geonames.usgs.gov/gnisform.html
Found my Patrick Fitzpatrick and his in-laws, the Russell family. Thank you for all the work that has been done. Would love to connect with someone researching these surnames. Carol Fitzpatrick Waldron
Success! I found my TAGGART line in the 6th Ward on Stow Avenue, p 236b, Bernard and his wife Eliza (Elizabeth) and children. Many thanks PAT for giving us this valuable information so nicely presented. I can now more closely pinpoint when my Taggarts left Ireland. My next search is for NISKEY. Patti, West Troy was the old name for Watervliet. Someone must have written Watervliet on the side of the census in modern times, just for clarification purposes. Troy is on the east side of the Hudson River. West Troy was on the opposite shore. Old Troy city directories (1880s) list West Troy as separate from Troy. It was in Albany Co. I don't see how they could have been considered to be the same place in 1840. Hello All, I don't know if I have found my GGGrandfather or not in the 1840 census or not. It only lists head of house hold and I'm not quite sure because I don't know how many children they had. In this census this William Gray had 5 in the house hold. 2 under 5 and 1 over 5 but under 10, in addition to 2 adults. The children that I am definate about were not born until 1842 and 1848. My question is regarding the actual page of the census and also county info. I found this William Gray in the Albany census in West Troy, NY. Written down along the left side of the census near the top of the page is "West Troy" a little farther down, still on the left side is written "Watervliet". How close are these in proximity? William Gray's name actually appears along side the words "Watervliet" but the census index states West Troy. Marriage certs and death certs say my relatives were born in Troy, family history says Troy, Renssaeler County. Could they have lived in Watervliet but also considered it Troy? My reason for asking is maybe I can find churches in that area (for those that are familiar with this census info) and hopefully finally locate them. One son was Catholic and the other was Methodist according to their obits. St. Mary's and St. Peter's in Troy have no record of the family. Any help to point me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Patti Gray-Smith Patti Smith

David, There are over 93,000 cemetery records online at the following site. If you find names that interest you, the cemetery name is on the same line, and it should tell if it is in Castleton. Castleton is in the Town of Schodack. I mention this in case there is a cemetery outside the village limits. It might give the Town of Schodack as the location. http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyrensse/cem1.htm Cliff ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ann and David Carr wrote: > Hello all, > > Am new to this list and unfamiliar with the town of Castleton > but....having relatives buried there with no indication of a cemetery > name, wonder if there are several burial grounds? > > If there is a cemetery that is partisan to the Methodist Episcopal > church, how can I obtain monument or burial info? > > David in Scarborough ON > > ==== NYRENSSE Mailing List ==== > Archives: http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl > Rensselaer County Genweb page: http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyrensse/ > GenConnect Board: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/NY/Rensselaer > GenExchange-Rensselaer Co http://www.genexchange.org/county.cfm?state=ny&county=rensselaer
