Hi Listers: Still trying to solve the mystery of what happened to my great-grandmother and two of her daughters. My grandmother was MARY ELIZABETH CARROLL O'CONNOR and the 1880 census shows her living at 93 Ida Street, Troy with the following family members: James Carroll - Age 30 - Born Ireland Mary Carroll - Age 25 - Born Mary Dunn in Hurley, NY Mary Carroll - Age 7 - (my grandmother) Born in Hurley, NY (marries William O'Connor) Margaret Carroll - Age 5 - Born in Hurley, NY Catherine Carroll - Age 3 - Born in Hurley, NY Ann Carroll - Age 1- Born in Hurley, NY (marries Maurice J. Rainey) This census record was to first indication of the existence of Margaret and Catherine Carroll. No one in the family knew of these two daughters. We only knew of our grandmother Mary and her sister Ann. Family history has it that our great-grandmother died young and her husband James Carroll remarried a Ellen Bracken. The 1880 Troy City directory indicates that Ellen Bracken also lived at 93 Ida Street, Troy. In 1885 the first of three children is born to James and Ellen. The children were Helen Carroll Zepf, Lawrence Carroll and Elizabeth Carroll. To date I have been unable to find ANY records of the death of MARY CARROLL and the two daughters; MARGARET and CATHERINE. They had to have died during the period after the 1880 census was taken and the birth of Helen Carroll in 1885. I have checked cemetery records and they are not buried with James Carroll in his plot. I have complete records on all the other family members and their families but am stymied on these three. I would love to find a breakthrough in my search on these three individuals. Thanks to all the good people who e-mailed me concerning Snyder Lake. Rita
Is Snyder Lake in Rensselaer County? What is the nearest town? Thanks, Rita
John Butler is recorded as marrying a Jane McGrah (McGrath) d. 1862 of Hoosick in 1847. I also have him married to a Jane Gordon in Boone County, MO where John died in 1906. Jane Gordon died in 1882 in St. Charles Co, MO.These three names are candidates for his first wife of four. John came to NY with his father from Tipperary County Ireland about 1827. His father John built a hotel on the first rail line between Albany and Schenectady. John II went to California from 1852-1855. He returned to Mo and became very wealthy before he died. Is anyone researching these lines? Thanks, Ken Newton
My father, Francis Carey, and his brothers William, Steve, James and Edward were partners in a produce dealership in the city of Troy from sometime in the early 1930s until 1970. They sold produce from their trucks and visited customers at their homes. I'm putting together a family book and would appreciate any memories or anecdotes of the Carey Brothers that anyone might like to share. Many thanks, Lynn Carey Grice

Well, I just finished putting together the 11th ward. The volunteer transcribers completed it today. It has 4,129 entries, 842 families living in 373 dwellings. The volunteers for this ward are: Ron Mauer, Bob McConihe, Dorsey Clark, Lynn Grice, Joan Firth-Kaysen, Brooke Myers, and MaryAnn McConnell. They were joined by Carol Waldron in the 8th ward which is almost complete, also. They are now working on the 2nd ward. The 11th ward will start going on line at the URL below my name, gradually starting tomorrow as I format it for the website. With this ward, we now have transcribed a total of 17,232 people, 3,274 families living in 1,706 dwellings. All volunteers are welcome. The more we have the faster this will get done. We are now about half done and working our way north, we are in the center of the city. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com

A while back someone posted a message looking for Troys male orphan asylum. Try looking at Pat Connors page HTTP://www.connorsgenealogy.com under the census and then the 12th ward , this will bring up a map of the 12th ward and right in the middle of this map you will see the asylum.
Would someone please give me the address for the Troy 6,9, and 12 th ward census Thank you. Barbara
Is anyone else having trouble getting rootsweb sites, most notably Renss. Co ones, to load fully or at all? Has the server been slow and unreliable? I never know if it's my ancient computer or the site causing the trouble. I hope I am not alone! Aloha Eve
Does anyone know where the town Hansvick in Rensselaer County was or what it's modern day name is? I couldn't find it in any record dating back to 1791 at the County Clerk's office. Thanks... Carli Drake
Hi List, I am trying to locate the obituary for Elizabeth IDE. Born Jan 9, 1909, died in Troy on Oct. 6, 1987. Is there someone that could either tell me how to obtain her obit or possibly find the obit for me? I am willing to pay for all reasonable costs. Thank you very much, Lynn White Sarasota, FL -- Lynn White lynnmwhite@home.com
I am looking for info on the parents of Alderman Baker Herrick, b/1800 in NY. I believe he was born in Rensselaer Co., probably the son of Lebeus and Priscilla (Whipple-Hayes) Herrick. There was a minister of the First Baptist Church there whose name was Alderman Baker. Does anyone have info on either of these families? Sandy McSpadden.
I have transcribed and posted the 1882-1890 deaths recorded in the register of the First Presbyterian Church in Valatie, Columbia Co., NY. Valatie is 1 mile north of Kinderhook. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~clifflamere/Cem/DTH-ValPresby.htm Cliff
This morning I have posted the 1872-1899 marriages for the First Presbyterian Church in Valatie, Columbia Co., NY. I have transcribed these over the past few days, and have provided two forms of the webpage. One is alphabetical by the groom's surname and the other by the bride's surname. These can be used in conjunction with the 1872-1891 baptism records for the same church posted last week. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~clifflamere/ Look for the marriage records in Vital Records-Marriages, then Columbia Co. I have temporarily removed six GenExchange links from my website because they are not working. If someone will tell me in the future that they online again, I will restore these links. Cliff
I believe Hoosick & 9th is in the 7th Ward of Troy. Lynn
