Can anyone tell me if the Troy Cemeteries are online? I am looking for the burial place of my ggggrandmother, Silinda (WILGUS) DAVIS, who died in Troy, 19 Jan. 1863. Thank you. Kathy
Hello Everyone, Much to my dismay, my dad and I prowled around several family plots in St. Joe's Cemetary (Troy) to mark the exact locations with my GPS receiver. I also found several more stones that must've been buried by snow when I climbed around the swamp area, too. Many were overturned, though. Well in the main area I saw so many stones broken or turned over compared to my last visit in December, that I felt sick to my stomach. The cemetary looks terrible. I could not find anyone to inquire about what happened, so I am wondering if anyone on this list happened to hear anything. I wonder if anything can be done...it doesn't seem so as it looks as if some hydraulic equipment would need to be rented/purchased to attempt to fix the mess. Thanks, Brooke

Description of one of the two photos previously mentioned should have read photo taken in 1930 (not 1940), their date of graduation. Sorry 'bout that, Beth Callanan Washington, DC
Have two large photos of the 1930 8th grade graduating class of St. Peter's Catholic Grammar School in Troy, NY. The first was taken in 1928 when they were in 6th grade -- all seated at desks. The second taken in 1940 outside holding their diplomas. Am willing to make copies for anyone with a relative in that class. Note there are no names associated with the photo and I can identify only my father, Thomas J. HESTER. Also have commemorative "souvenir" holy card that advises on one side "Visit the Sacred Host of Tomorrow's Communion" and a prayer for that occassion. Don't know if this from a First Communion or something else. Since only boys' names are listed on the reverse side, suspect it might be memento from La Salle military high school also attended by my father. If so, these would be class of 1934. (Note there appear to be two groups of 13 names each separately alphabetized -- 26 in total. In the photos, there are 18 boys in the 6th grade photo and 20 in the 8th grade photo, so neither of those seem to fit the number on the holy card.) James E. BARRY Curran W. BLIGH Daniel J. I believe the certified copy of your birth certificate from the county WILL contain the original name with an annotation that the name was legally changed. The original document is not discarded, only annotated. Good luck, Ned Schimminger, just outside Niagara Falls
Laurie: I do not have much information about Polly Babcock. She reportedly was born in New Lebanon, Columbia, Co, NY. Noah was married to Jemima (unknown) in RI and they apparently left for NY before Jan. 10, 1789 when they deeded their land to John Foster, Jr. This is based on a son being born to them in New Lebanon in 1788. Polly reportedly gave birth to Tacy, 1790; Caleb, 1792; and Polly, 1796. Noah and his brother William had land transactions in New Lebanon during this time period. In 1801 Ruth Greene, also of unknown origin, gave birth to Calvin and subsequently, many more children. If you have any information about a Polly fitting these parameters, I would appreciate receiving it. Larry
To Lawrence: I have quite a few Polly Babcocks in the Babcock Genealogy (9 in fact) plus some others such as Polly Benedict etc. Do you have any dates for Polly. One of the Polly Babcock's father lived in Albany after the Revolutionary War. New Lebanon is not far from there. I'll send you more information if you think this is the right Polly. Would anyone know if the 2nd Reformed Church, in Albany still exists, and how to contact them? One of my ancestors, Mary Ann Taylor, married Daniel E. Crane there in the 1870's and I'm looking for more info. Thanks, and good hunting!

I have an unusual situation. I was born at Samaritan Hospital in Troy in 1967. When I was around two, my parents had my name legally changed. I know that if I write the county I can get a certified copy of my birth certificate with my current name. What I want to know is if it would be possible to get some "official" proof of my original name. [I have family cards signed with my original name.] Does anyone know who I would contact for this type of information in Rensselaer Co.? V. Hi, Today I received a message from Henry Z. Jones - the author of Palatine Families of New York - 1710 congratulating me on my web page; however, he also accused me of including info from his books without giving him credit. I DID NOT copy anything from his books - I personally checked every church record and did research in courthouses in Dutchess, Ulster, Columbia, Scoharie, Columbia, Greene, Albany, Saratoga, Monroe, Genesse, Oneida, Herkimer, Schenectady & Rensselaer Co. And in some cases their Archives and Libraries as well. http:/members.tripod.com/~JeffriesB __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Agnes Cloninger and I have collaborated on another webpage of will abstracts (proved 1685-1786) that were filed in New York City. This time it is the Town of Claverack in Columbia Co., NY. There are 30 will abstracts in all. The index I created contains all names mentioned in every abstract, which comes to 479 names. Click on any name to go to the abstract of the appropriate will. My hat is off to Agnes for her tireless effort. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~clifflamere/Wills/Wills-Claverack.htm Cliff

I have just posted the St. George's Cemetery (Episcopal) in Schenectady, NY. The deaths were from 1788-1994. The records were orginally put into a database by Robert Vines and was sent to me by Jonathan Pearson IV. The file size was much too large because the data was in a table. I worked on it many times, but couldn't find a way to reduce the size of the file without leaving off the stone inscriptions. Kari Maunu came through for me once again. He was able to reduce the size from 747 Kb to 110 Kb. That means that the data will appear on your computer screen about a minute sooner, which was my goal. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~clifflamere/Cem/CEM-StGeorge-Schen.htm Cliff
