I am presently transcribing data from the 1865 New York State census for my ancestors. In doing so, I found that at the end of each ward (10 at the time), the enumerator listed all the deaths and marriages for the preceding year for the ward plus the ward's Civil War deaths. Knowing this was valuable information, I copied it and I am now typing the data into Excel spreadsheets to get on line on my website. As I was doing this I thought maybe I could start sending the information to the Rensselaer mailing list as I get the wards typed. So that is what I am going to start to do. So, if you are not interested in this info, I will identify what data and which ward in the subject of the email and you can delete the message without reading it. A bigggg word of caution. First of all, the surnames and the diseases were spelled wrong in the census and I have transcribed them as the enumerator spelled them. For example, I saw the surname, O'Brien, spelled O'Brine, O'Bryan, O'Brain, etc. and then, of course, without the 'O'. Secondly, the handwriting was extremely hard to read at times and I guessed at the spellings and or put ?? in the box. I have no other info than what I am post, other than you can order the microfilm at your local LDS Family History Library. The ``Vote Virus'', which so far is not wide spread, circulates via e-mail to users of Microsoft Corp.'s (Nasdaq:MSFT - news) Outlook e-mail program, said Simon Perry, vice president of security solutions at Computer Associates International Inc. (NYSE:CA - news) The virus, punctuated by strange grammar and a mix of lower- and upper-case letters, appears with the subject line: ''Peace between America and Islam!'' and the body of the e-mail reads: ``Hi. Is it a war against America or Islam!? Let's vote to live in peace!'' Perry and other experts said. When the attachment entitled ``WTC.exe'' is opened, the virus tries to delete all the files on the computer's hard drive and sends copies of the e-mail to every address listed in the computer's address book, he said. The virus also defaces any Web pages that are hosted by an infected computer to read: ``America ... few days will show you what we can do!!! I found this on another list: Just an alert of a new virus that's circulating around that has as a subject: ``Peace between America and Islam.'' It, naturally, has an attachments: WTC.exe DO NOT open the attachment!! DELETE the message if received! Never open attachments unless the sender already tells you what is in them. If some gets infected on the list, I will unsub them until they clean their computer so as not to spread the virus to other listers.
