    1. Simmons family of Rensselaer Co, NY
    2. Wayne Simmons
    3. Hello Everyone! I have traced my family to William Simmons and Betsey Ives of Sand Lake, Rensselaer, NY but can not find either of their parents. Does anyone have any information about William Simmons or Betsey Ives? Statistics follow: William Simmons b. 16 Jun 1796 probably in Troy, Rensselaer, NY, d. 4 Apr 1872 in Michigan married Betsey in Sand Lake, Rensselaer, NY on 14 Mar 1815. Betsey Ives b. 29 Jul 1797 in Sand Lake, Rensselaer, NY, d. 24 Feb 1871 in Michigan After marriage they moved to Rotterdam, Schenectady, NY about 1826. Then they move again to Wheatfield, Niagara, NY about 1836. Then they moved to Berlin, Ionia, Michigan about 1852. If you have information about William or Betsey I would appreciate you contacting me via email at your earliest convenience. Thanks very much for your help! Best Regards, Wayne Simmons

    2. Rich I am reading your post and just coincidental that the Ireland Cemetary list has some talk now of Walsh. Don't know if you are on that list...Kris -----Original Message----- From: Richard Shea <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Fri, 15 Jul 2005 00:34:15 -0400 Subject: [Rensselaer] Walsh/Canary Jan, I'm not sure if we haven't corresponded before but I am somewhat desparate to find siblings for my great-grandfather Richard Walsh, son of John and Mary (Burke) Walsh. That is one of three reasons I am entering this thread; the second is that my father mentioned Richard Walsh's daughter Mary F. Walsh having been married or engaged to a Canary. The Walsh family lived originally on Chestnut Street in Troy which I find was near Prospect Park and then children John Frederick, Mary and Sarah moved to 142 Pawling Avenue, next to thier sister Margaret L. Walsh Shea after thier father's death. Sarah A. Walsh eventually married Ira Dustin of Mechanicville but upon his death moved back to Pawling Ave. The third reason being there was also a first son named James who became a priest serving in Troy, Hudson and died in Newburgh, NY. Of course James is not an unusual name with Walsh or any Irish family. Despite a large number of Walshs in Troy I haven't been able to find a connection to any. The other problem I have found in that Richard Walsh was listed in the 1870 and 1880 Fed Census of Troy and on his enlistment papers with the 1st Delaware Infantry as Richard Welch. He was naturalized in Massachusetts in 1853 where I believe he met and married his wife, Mary Bridget Fitzgerald, about 1865. If you can find any connections or leads I would be greatly indebted. 2. Lin Van Buren
    3. Hi, Jan and Sheila Jan, although you and I are not quite cousins, I just thought I'd mention that I recognise this REYNOLDS family; one member of it married into my MORRIS family. Thomas REYNOLDS (d 1821) and Christina MOHR (c1758-1846) were the parents not only of your Peter REYNOLDS (c1796-1870) but also of William REYNOLDS (born ca 1789, baptised Germantown, Columbia Co NY, died before 1850 probably in Sand Lake, Rensselaer Co NY). William REYNOLDS married a Margaret ___ who had been born in Columbia Co NY ca 1797. William and Margaret REYNOLDS were the parents of Christina Maria REYNOLDS (1819-1882) of Sand Lake. This Christina REYNOLDS married ca 1842 Joseph D. MORRIS (1817-1882) of Schodack, Rensselaer Co NY. Joseph D. MORRIS was a son of my ancestors Darius MORRIS (1774-1858) and first wife Jane DUSENBURY (1780-1843) of Nassau, Rensselaer Co NY. Darius and Jane MORRIS were also the parents of Demmon MORRIS (1806-1874) of Nassau, and Demmon MORRIS married Catharine EARING (1811-after 1880). Darius and Jane MORRIS were also the parents of my ancestress Mary Ann MORRIS (c1811-1889), wife of my ancestor Hiram VAN BUREN (c1817-1883) of Schodack. I don't recognise Sheila's REYNOLDSes of Green Island. However, my ancestor Hiram VAN BUREN's brother Samuel VAN BUREN (1829-1905) is buried in Mount Ida Cemetery in Troy, Rensselaer Co NY, and I have seen this grave. Buried right next to him is William H. WALSH, born April 15, 18__, died April __, 1891. William WALSH's grave is close enough to Samuel VAN BUREN's grave to suggest a connection, although I cannot find one, despite much searching. Does this William H. WALSH show up in your cousin's WALSH database? Good luck in your searches! 1. RE:CANARY
    2. Barbara, Do you have Sarah Walsh Canary in your family? I believe her husband's name was Thomas but would have to check that. They lived in Troy, N. Y. Since my relatives brothers' surname was Walsh, I'm making the assumption that Bridget Reynolds and Sarah Canary also had Walsh as a maiden surname. I have yet to find any of them on ships' lists or to find out where they originally came from , although censuses record them as from Ireland. Sheila

    2. Hi Jan, Although I don't recognize any of your Reynoldses, I would like to persue the Walsh line. Perhaps your cousins' database will turn out something that will connect. So far, no one seems connected to my Reynoldses, so I thought I'd take a different tack and see if something came from searching the Walshes and Canarys a bit. I grew up Vermont and can see Vermont mountains from my N.Y. State living room. Cousin?? Sheila

    2. Hi Lin, Your response is much appreciated. I only live about an hour and a half from Troy, so will try to get the time to check out the grave for Wm. Walsh at Mt. Ida Cemetery. I don't have any info on Bridget and Simon outside of their time in Green Island, N.Y. and hope to possibly get something from the Walshes or Canarys. A trip to Dublin in April at least pinned down where my great grandparents came from so that will be a big help with the research. Thanks again for taking the time to write. Sheila
