    3. Hi Pat, As this came in from cyber space , I was reading your April 24, 2005 update to your Conners Genealogy----Kind of scary !!! Yes there is at least 1 other Campbell/Bonesteel marriage that I am aware of . John Campbell, who may be the, son of Gilbert and Mary Campbell married Abigail Bonesteel , daughter of Peter and Abigail Bonesteel and was living with them in the 1870 census for Grafton, Rensselaer Co. NY. I say may be, as they are living 10 residences apart but they list a son John who is 1 year difference in age. Not likely 2 living siblings would have same name unless 1 is just called John instead of given name. 3. As you may have noticed, I have not been as involved with our list recently. Well, it has been an interesting 4 or 5 months for me. I took a trip to Denver in April, had house guests and family obligations in May, had major surgery in June, then went on vacation with my 16 year old grand daughter from July 16 to yesterday. We went to NYC, Ireland and upstate NY and had a great time. Needless to say, my mailing lists didn't get the attention they deserved during this period and hopefully no one had problems posting, subscribing and/or unsubscribing from the list. But, I am back and if you need any help, write me off list and do what I can to help you. I hope you all have had a great summer. After the 95 humid weather in NY, it was nice to land here last night to 75 degrees. Of course, it will get hot during the day today. Also, if any of you have submitted data and/or surnames for the surname registries on my website, I have fallen behind with my updates and plan to get them all up to date in the near future. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA, list admin http://www.connorsgenealogy.com All outgoing mail virus free, scanned by ZoneAlarm AntiVirus

    3. I'm a new member of this list and am looking for information regarding the man who I believe (but have not proven) is my 4th great-grandfather. Charles Duane Hall was born in Westerly, Washington Co., Rhode Island on 09 Mar 1758. He served in the Rhode Island Militia during the Revolutionary War, and according to his pension application migrated to Rensselaer Co., NY about 1787. According to census entries, he lived in: 1790 - Stephentown 1800 & 1810 - Petersburgh 1820 & 1830 - Grafton 1840 - Brunswick He appears in Grafton in the Pensioner list of 1835 and still appears on the pensioner list in 1841, so he apparently died sometime between 1841 and 1850. Despite the fact that he was a Revolutionary veteran, I have been unable to locate his grave - I expect it was unmarked. I believe (but again, have not proven) that Charles Duane Hall is the father of Henry Merchant Hall (b. 1787 in Rhode Island and d. 1868 in Greenwich, Washington Co., NY). I would love to hear from others who have any information on Halls in this area. Nancy Barnett DeWitt, NY

    3. Hi Barbara, Went to your site and found what you are talking about. I couldn't find them in 1860 census as I wasn't looking for John -- brain fade. If we can figure out the surnames used for Almon and who his actual father is, it will solve a mystery that has frusturated my wife and her mother for a lot of years. She met with 2 different women yesterday that are descendants of Almon and neither knew who his father was. One lady was in her 80's and the other in her 90's and both very alert. Both are related to my wife and gave her a lot of info. Hopefully , birth records will shed lite on both Almon and Andrew. See ya Dave PS--Your site answered the "brothers" question on David L. , Henry and Peter. Thanks. Does anyone have info on Jonas’s parents? I know there must be a connection to the other Bonesteels in the Grafton/Brunswick area, but I can’t find it. BTW, if anyone is connected to William Sanford Bonesteel, I came across a photo postcard on Ebay of him, Eliza, & his mother Lydia in front of their house taken very early 1900s. I will send a copy to anyone interested. > > > OK boys and girls~~~~pay attention to this --Question # 2---Almon is illegimate son of David L. Bonesteel and Elisabeth [Betsey] Weeden, born 1846/1847.[ educated guess ] Living in 1850 and 1855, with David and daughter Sarah [ born 1832] mothers name unknown, but deceased prior to 1850. David and deceased wife had 1 son [ wrong age to be Almon] and 1 other daughter living with them in 1840. Married Sarah Rogers [widow of Jacob] in Dec. 1857 abandoned March 1858. Almon living with Peter [Davids brother ? ] and Abigail Bonesteel in 1860. Was married to Harriet [Lottie] Rogers, daughter of Sarah and Jacob Rogers. Question # 2--- Eliza Rogers , daughter of Edward Rogers , who was the son of Sarah and Jacob Rogers , married William Bonesteel . He was the son of Jonas and Lydia Bonesteel. The father of Jonas was Henry Bonesteel. Still searching for mothers name. David , Peter and Henry Bonesteel are probably brothers [should have proof by Monday of this] and the Rogers, Campbells, Myers and Hayners are all related thru Bonesteel marriages. The Grafton census for 1870, starting with family # 16 -Almon Bonesteel thru family # 29- George Myers [Mary Bonesteel] with only 2 exceptions , are documented related to each other. You might even include family # 30 , as Lodowick Bonesteel [ died 1841] married a Coonradt. Now that I've got everyone confused, I'm going back to bed! ;-) See ya Dave > > > > > >

    3. Hi, Lodowick's date of birth is based on his age, according to the cemetery record (from tombstone)at the time of his death. My wife is going there tomorrow and will try to verify. Thinks there is as many as 100 graves in Bonesteel Cemetery, not all Bonesteels but all related. Info comes from Lillian [Hogle] Aiken 80 years old who is related thru Almon Bonesteel and has done some research on him. Anna Catharina Haasam may have been first Nicholas wife in Germany with children Michael and Nicholas born there. They died shortly after arrivial in America. A little of the confusion may be cleared up when I realized the 1717 list of Palatine immigrants still living in America is survivors, by head of household, with current wife probably listed by name. If I remember right, the 1710 list listed Nicholas plus a wife and 2 children. I will have to look at the 1710 book next week. Have a nice weekend. Dave

    3. Hi Barb, Boy this is fun with all the "named after" names. I'm going to ramble a bit here with what I have found. The third child of Nicholas, born 17 March 1722, and Anna Elisabeth Trebor was named Anna Maria born 4 Sept.1746. Could this daughter be named after??? She married Killien Richard [name maybe reversed ?] Nicholas Bonenstiel, born 1689 in Germany , was married in Germany with 1 child, prior to coming to America. Son died shortly after arrival in America and it appears they had a second child in Sept.--Dec.1711 prior to first wifes death in Jan. --March 1712. Married Anna Margaretha Kuhn [also found spelling of Kuntz] sometime between March---June 1712. Could Anna Margaretha actually be his 3rd wife and Anna Maria his 2nd and married in this time frame? This might be a factor in Nicholas Jr. and Anna Trebor first 3 childrens names :Anna Margaretha 4 Sept. 1743 , Catharina 7 April 1745 , Anna Maria 17 Oct.1746. Do you have the birth date for Frederick? That's the only one of the 12 kids I haven't found yet. Is the correct birth date for Lodowick 19 Feb. 1760 and death date 19 Feb. 1841? That is one of the dates my wife is hoping to verify in the Bonesteel Cemetery if she can stay clear of the bees. Score is Bee 1 Jane 0. 3. Hi Barb, I sent Lisa an off list reply, with a phone number where my wife can be reached in Troy this week and our phone number in Rochester if she would rather my wife call her at a later time. Andrew Bonesteel and wife Ruth Rogers are the greatgreat grandparents of my wife.We saw some of the Rogers at my mother-in-laws [daughter of Charles Bonesteel and Christina Wend] funeral last fall, but didn't think to ask any questions then. She is having lunch with some of them today. She believes she found Abigails maiden name , but has to investigate that a little more to prove it .Thank you for tha date of their marriage, as we didn't have that. She was not a happy camper last nite as a bee took offense to her stepping on the nest in one of the cemeteries she was in yesterday. She also couldn't find the Bonesteel Cemetery, so I had to bring up a topo map to find the exact location. She wasn't looking far enough in off the road. Just think of all the fun we are having and I haven't even brought up Wend or Forebellar yet. 2. Lin Van Buren
    3. Hi, Ed I recognise this Frances PHILLIPS. But we need more PHILLIPS expertise than I have to find her great-grandfather! Can any of YOU help? Frances PHILLIPS (1856-1911) was a daughter of Nicholas PHILLIPS (1822-1882) and wife Margaret J. SHAVER (born ca 1825); both were born in Rensselaer County, NY, as was Frances. Frances married ca 1877 to John W. TAYLOR. Nicholas PHILLIPS was the eldest son of David PHILLIPS (23 March 1800-6 February 1881) and his wife Sarah (September 1805-29 July 1885), maiden surname unknown to me. David PHILLIPS had been born in Dutchess Co NY; wife Sarah had been born in Rensselaer Co NY. I am not certain who the father of this David PHILLIPS was. Can any other PHILLIPS researchers help with this? On the one hand, he is the only David PHILLIPS whom I can find who MAY have been living in Nassau, Rensselaer Co NY in 1838, when Roswell PHILLIPS (1771-1838) of Schodack, Rensselaer Co NY wrote his last will and when that will was probated; those probate papers specify that Roswell PHILLIPS's son David PHILLIPS was a resident of Nassau. And indeed, there WAS a "David R. PHILLIPS" in the 1840 US Census in Nassau. Also, in the 1865 NY State Census, Nicholas PHILLIPS lives right next door to Charles DREW, who was definitely a member of the Greenbush/Schodack PHILLIPS family (his mother was Anner PHILLIPS DREW, sister of Roswell PHILLIPS). On the other hand, though, the David PHILLIPS who was Frances's grandfather resided in Grafton, Rensselaer Co NY in 1850. Grafton is a place where an entirely different PHILLIPS family lived, although they used many of the same forenames and may be related as cousins or something to the Schodack/Greenbush PHILLIPSes. Also, Frances's grandfather David PHILLIPS named his eldest son NICHOLAS; this is a forename not found ANYwhere in the Schodack/Greenbush PHILLIPS family. Also, Frances's grandfather David PHILLIPS was born in Dutchess Co NY in about 1800, whereas Roswell PHILLIPS is listed in Albany Co NY in the 1800 US Census. The Greenbush-Schodack PHILLIPSes had indeed come from Dutchess Co NY (actually, the part that's now Putnam Co NY), but they were already in Rensselaer Co NY by 1800. Never have I seen the middle initial "R." used for Frances's grandfather David PHILLIPS in a record that would include his family, so I can't tell whether David R. PHILLIPS of Nassau in 1838 and 1840 is the same person who moved from Grafton to Nassau during the 1850s. There's a wealth of information about all these PHILLIPSes on the Rensselaer County, NY GenWeb site at http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyrensse/. What do you think about all this, Ed? 3. Okay, all this Bonesteel talk has piqued my interest. I have collected info on about 50 Bonesteels that are connected in some way to my Rogers family that I would be more than happy to share, if anyone would like to contact me off list. That being said, I have questions I'm hoping someone can answer. (Don't we all?! LOL) 1 -- My g-g-g-g-grandmother, Sarah, was married first to Jacob Rodgers, and after his death remarried to David L. Bonesteel. They were married December 20, 1857, but he purportedly abandoned her three months later in March 1858, and refused to live with her. I obtained this info from papers that Sarah filed in order to receive a pension following the death of her son, Aaron Rogers, in the Civil War. I have several notarized statements made on her behalf by neighbors who all attest to her being abandoned by her husband, and how she was nearly destitute. She was unable to apply for the Mother’s Pension until after David Bonesteel’s death in 1870. Prior to that, the government rejected her claim stating that he should be supporting her, which he refused to do. I know this is a long shot, but does anyone know anything about this? This must have been quite a scandal at the time. 2 – Sarah & her first husband, Jacob Rodgers, had a daughter named Harriet. Harriet married Almon Bonesteel. I’ve been unable to determine who his parents are. But if he is the son of David L. Bonesteel as someone speculated, then Harriet was married to her step-brother, and Almon was both Sarah’s stepson and son-in-law. Yikes! 3 – Sarah & Jacob Rodgers also had a son named Edward Rogers. Edward’s daughter, Eliza Rogers, married William Sanford Bonesteel, son of Jonas & Lydia Bonesteel. 4 – Edward Rogers had another daughter named Ruth A. Rogers who married Andrew Peter Bonesteel. In 1880, there's a Peter Bonesteel, grandfather, living with them. Who’s Andrew’s father? So far, I have only found the following children (all daughters) for Peter Bonesteel and Abigail: Martha Selina, Mary Jane, Abigail, Mary, and Clarissa. Who am I missing? Also in 1880 there was a Christina Rogers living with Ruth and Andrew. Christina was Ruth’s younger sister, who later married Sylvanus Dexter Wagar in 1886 (just in case anyone's interested). 5 – Peter Bonesteel’s wife, Abigail……..does anyone have a maiden name for her? I have reason to think it’s Richer, but just wondering if anyone has come up with something different. I'm so glad to see all this discussion on the Bonesteels. It's good to see names I'm familiar with on the list for a change. :-) If anyone can shed some light on the questions I have, or if I can help you, please let me know.

    3. Barbara you are a genius. I'll bet I have looked at that 1870[and 1880] census page a hundred times and never once thought of a prior marriage for the daughter. I did wonder about her age , but it never registered, as sometimes the best place to hide is right out in the open!!!! I went to the Ancestory web site and found the enlistment of the 4 Hayners [2 spellings] on the same day. Will look on census to see if they are same family. With this kernal of wisdom , everything now falls into place perfectly. THANK YOU :-) :-) :-) :-* . 3. Thanks Barbara, I won the bet with my wife who is in Rensselaer County right now with her brother from Boston searching. I also bet her that Mary will prove out to be Andrews mother. Finding the father for Almon will be a bonus but I believe David L. will be the prime candidate. Not important to my wifes lineage but another little empty space to fill in. I think we can now follow her family from Nicolaus [1710] to the present generation, unless she comes up with some real shocker information. I also think I have the parents for both Anna Margaretha and Nicolaus in Germany somewhere in my notes. A couple more empty spaces I can fill if correct. OK curious Shelia , Who and Where From? The bastard son fits but I don't know about the murder. Could this have something to do with the family political split over the war? Hmmm. Best regards to all the Bonesteel clan.
