Hi folks, Trying to find some info on Alexander Decker born abt 1870 in we believe Troy Ny. Alexander didn't talk much about his family so few clues for us to go on. He was in Oklahoma by at least 1901. The family story is that he claimed his mother drowned when he was young and he was sent to live with relatives but didn't like it there and ran away. Another family member says the story was that the mother drowned in an accident on some sort of barge or ice barge. Has anyone on the list ever heard of a story like this or perhaps found a newspaper article about it. I would like to know about any Decker families that were in Rens Co. Thank's for any help. Jacklyn

Thanks Patrick for this information! I will certainly follow up on this and see if it can get me to the next stone. I will keep my eyes open for the Cummins / Commins during my searches. Patrick, Here is what I know about William Simmons and Betsey Ives. I also have most details about their 12 children. 1. William SIMMONS-[100]1 was born on 16 Jun 1796 in Troy, Rensselaer, New York,2 died on 4 Apr 1872 in Ionia Co., MI 3 at age 75, and was buried about 9 Apr 1872 in Balcom Cem., Ionia Co., MI.. General Notes: William Simmons, a farmer by occupation, had served in the war of 1812 when a young man. His father was Scotch and his mother German. The family moved into Rensselaer County at an early day.4 Noted events in his life were: . He served in the military Enlisted in War 1812 on 23 Aug 1814 in Sand Lake, Rensselaer, New York.5 William mustered out at White Hall, Washington Co., NY on October 28, 1814 because there was news of peace. The war actually ended in 1815. . He emigrated Rotterdam, NY in 1826 from Sand Lake, Rensselaer, New York.6 By 1826 William bought land in Rotterdam, Schenectady County, NY. The NY 1835 census shows William owning 64 acres in Rotterdam, 10 cattle, 3 horses, and 9 hogs. . He emigrated the family to another farm in NY. in 1836 from Rotterdam, Schenectady, NY.7 About 1836 the Simmons family moved to Wheatfield, Niagara Co., NY and bought land for a farm. In 1850 the wheat crops in the area were destroyed by a plague of midges. This could be why the family moved to Michigan. . He emigrated to Michigan in 1852 from Wheatfield, Niagara Co., NY..7 In 1852 the family settled on 80 acres in Berlin Twp., Ionia County, Michigan. At some time, the State of New York awarded William (listed as living in Portland, MI) $12 for his service in the War of 1812. . He appeared on the Michigan census in 1860 in Berlin Twp., Ionia Co., MI..7 The 1860 census shows William and Betsey living with Polly and Able and Alvira. William's farm is valued at $3,300. In 1869 William was issued some land near Pontiac, MI for his service in the War of 1812. He sold it to the lawyer who had obtained it for him. The 1870 census shows William and Betsey in Berlin Twp., Ionia Co. William married Betsy IVES-[103] [MRIN: 341691864], daughter of ____________ ____________ and ____________ ____________, on 14 Mar 1815 in Sand Lake, Rensselaer, New York.8 Betsy was born on 29 Jul 1797 in Sand Lake, Rensselaer, New York,9 died on 24 Feb 1871 in Ionia Co., MI 10 at age 73, and was buried about 28 Feb 1871 in Balcom Cem., Ionia Co., MI.. Noted events in her life were: . She appeared on the General Information census in 1870 in Berlin Twp., Ionia Co., MI..7 Her father was possibly a German soldier and her mother was (rumored to be) a full-blooded American Indian from New York State. The 1880 census states, however, that Betsey's parents were both born in Vermont. Betsey married William Simmons in Rensselaer County, New York. Her first four children, all boys, were born in that county between 1816 and 1821. The 1870 census tells us that Betsey couldn't read or write. OK back to square one so to speak.. WHO all is working the various children of Silas JONES SR? WHO is working unknown JONES in this area I have some people's names I now correspond with. I have some partial lineages done. Others have some nice web sites. ie Melanie's. I can not raise a sound from Judy Rowe.. I Pray she is okay. Since a very nice person found the records of NOYES NOYCE JONES parents as NOEL b ie 1780 and Susannah JONES in the Petersburg records, I have wondered if any of their other ? children would be recorded there also. Did he have other children..? Where did he go after 1810? 4 on 1820 but none in this area. Did he fight in WAR of 1812? Next series of questions regard NOIS NOYCE NOYCE JONES b 1808-9 son NOEL JONES 1834 ie b. Born in MASS. NOEL was the only child born in MASS according to all records found so far including private family records. HE also supposedly died before family moved to ILL. Mc Henry Co , NUNDA .. town. This is the town that the JONES and DREW from Schodack went to and founded a Baptist Church in 1850s. Prior to NOYES JONES leaving NY to go west. NOYES left some time after 1855 census. KNown other family members from here were JOHNSON Addison and Alfred m NOyes daughter, female Bartlett m Charles JONES last child known of NOYES and Susan Madison JONES . DREW appearing not related but was in same area from NY and then the William Drew that Fanny Jones DREW ma dau of Charles JONES. HIS line seems to come from PA but from NY also . Think linked if back far enough. After all one JONES m Roberts and they went to PA to live as did another went to south west PA .. named JONES.. Way to many JONES :>) Please contact me if any one has a JONES from this area in their files. Also does anyone know where to find a completed file on Mabel HEWITT ALLEN on JONES.
