Hi Fred, If you are directing your question about having any Goewey information to me, I do not have any knowledge or info about the family or name. All I did was notice the name when I did a look up for someone last week and posted the info in case it could help someone. Sheila
Dorothy, The information for Lansingburg(h) would not be in the Albany Directory, I don't think, but in the Troy Directory. The Troy one covered surrounding towns, in spite 0f some of them being in Albany County and not Rensselaer County. ( I'm not from the area but my family settled there when they came from Ireland, so that's where "my" information is !! ) Try checking the libraries you mentioned for the TROY Directory. Perhaps listers from the area will be able to offer you better information. Sheila
I'm trying to find any information on my ggrandfather Charles B. Stevens. From his daughters death certificate it says he was born in Troy, NY. From the records of St. Lawrence Church, Troy, he married Mary Keller on January 09, 1883. They had 2 children Theresa and Emma. I found a Charles B. in the 1883/84/85 Troy city directory. I found nothing more until 1890 when I found my ggrandmother Mary living with her brother. I have sent for death certificates, but none of them belonged to me. I am hoping someone can give me some ideas as to what I can do now. I would appreciate any ideas. Than you, Connie in TN.
Have you any knowledge of Peter Goewey / Goewy in Putham,Putham County Vermont. Or Robert Crossman/ Crosman. The family says Soloman and nothing more than that on him and them jumps to Peter and on back threw Hawley family and Lookerman famlies. Which I think my cousins genealogy stinks. No proof or any information then jumps to a man to whom they do not even knows is related in aother state> I have my line traced to 1840 in Richford,Franklin , Vermont. I found oldest son in St Albans Wealthy Goewey King in same county. That gives John Christopher, George B. , my Harriet E. and Wealthy King. Whose decendents have a birth date on her and a wedding lis. saying she was born in Richford. So Jon Gowey fits the Vermont spelling of Goewey. I keep trying but no prise so far. One JHG was born in Putham in 1823 but he went to Ohio. I ran across the records of one woman in the LDS files on Goewey. First one I ever saw when I was a kid. I am back another 10 years in 1840 I found 1850 was Goie with all of the correct names from wife down to the youngest son. I am more prown to think Vermont rather in new York regardless what the others think. It was when I thru out the cousins phonie line and start doing my research that I found better results. He contacted me agian and I told him what I think. With the reasons. He was upset at first, but he started looking also. I told him I like him have no proof but when you have removed all of the other things it could be and then what is left is the truth ? I have four generations down from John Henry , John C. , Charles R. and John H. for JHG oldest son John C. Belive me I am doing my home work. Thank you so much Fred fm
Thanks for your response! I heard from a new "cousin" just last night who has some information. I've gained at least one new generation of Pattens and several generations of Fosters and Standishes (as in MIles). How about that? Please tell me about the directory in Albany....perhaps, I can find it in the Cincinnati library or the Allen County library in Ft. Wayne, IN. Now that I have some new names and locations, I can check new sources. Where any of your family born in the year 1810 ? In 1830 the Geoweys and Nortons came to clinton county. James Norton and Elizabeth Goewey line I have been able to confirm his father died their. After much research the only know sister death cert was found her only dummy child Martha Elizabeth Goewey she put down her in laws as being her grandparents and parents of Elizabeth Goewey. In the census of 1830 I found a Solomon Goewey in Morah township in Essex county. In a telegram from Darius McFadden to John Henry Goewey. Darius says auntie died and furneral will be held sunday. No meation of who auntie was, from George B. second oldest son's desendence their is a name of Morhous. I am looking for any name that might fit. Their are many Morehouse, Morhous familes. And other spellings in both Clinton and Essex Counties, NY. From the same people and David Martin in person they claim a Solomon was father of John Henry and Elizabeth. The Solomon Goewey I found just disappeared in 1830 in 1840 one shows up in Wayne county, NY clear accross the State. I found one sister's cousins living in Montana and we have been exchanging information back and forth. Most of it her way she told me. She gave me a photo of Harried and Wealth Goewey her sister. Now I found in Austin< Minn. A photo in the Newpaper and a three colom telling about Darius in the Civil War. Tried to figure out what a person who was so unimportant managed to get such a spread. Turns out he was a Mason like the family in Clinton County, NY. A district councilman, he was in charge of the local DAR Gang when they had a CAMP There in Austin, Mower, Minn. Harriet belonged to the womens org for the same group and has simbles of such on the Tomb stones. I have his Civil War records and a big bio I wrote oh them when I got the first Civil War Records back in 1970's. I now have a family history on CD's for members of my family. Back to the two goeweys that ended up in St. Albans , Vermont. John Christopher Goewey and Wealthy Goewey King. The King line is now in Montanta at least part of it. John C Goewey to my surprise fought in the Civil War now. Soldiers and Windows pension info from Anceatry.com and I have the forms to send to gov office to obtain.... Why it will have where he was born placing them might prove Lansingburgh also. It will give his death information because he died and the first pension closes. Widows Information given marriage and birth place in Canada. More record to locate on his wifes Family. We need the death and burial records to check agaist the George G.'s line of records which I have found not to be any good beyond John Henry. The fellow who did this line just placed a name Solomon Goewey. and then clamed a linage back to the first Goewey in the USA. That is no way to do genealogy for me. If he had sourced it maybe. There was a big fall out with the borther of John Henry and his brother I can not prove that either. It must have been a real bad one if Martha did not know the names of her grandparents. I never knew anything about my grandparents either but my father would not tell me anything about it. Mom told me about what happened and he had a lot of reasons to anyone looking up his back ground. From his parents back the were very Honorable folks but him no way. My father only had two children due to my mother's tiped insides and neg b type of blood. I and my sister was never to make it. If you believe the doctor, my sister was spoiled abd given everything ahead of me because she would not make it past 12 years. mmmm the old lady is two years older that myself. Now I am 64 but it is not nice to tell folks how old a lady is. Well back to the salt minds fred and thanks even for thinking about my line it is so nice. I know from the census over the years from Ancestry there is a very big group there. Now for Weanty T Crossman was born in Vermont. Census records takes me back to Putnam county, I really have it down there. If I am correct on the parents I have found several lines already done for her parents. Grandfather was Jacob Crossman and Linda Claflin . The would make 2nd line for that family of mine. I found the whole family on my shelf and where they come from birth dates. Carrie turns out to be Carmi a male. His line goes to St Lawrence with four of his boys in the Civil War. There is one more to young to go, or he would have made it also. I know a lot more but still do not have the lines beyound John Henry and Wealthy T. So it goes fm
Hi Fred, William [Williem] GOEWEY and Jemima OSTRANDER GOEWEY had children born between 1800-1821 in East Greenbush, Rensselaer, NY: Jonathan [Johannes] my 3 great grandfather, Rachel, Barent, Mary, Getty, Jane E., Lean and William GOEWEY, Jr. Sorry, I'm not able to connect your GOEWEY family to mine at this time. Jan Jordan in VT <[email protected]> <In Lansingburgh, part of Troy, NY, John Henry Goewey, was born 1810 and his sister Elizabeth Goewey was born 1806-7. Fred, [email protected]>

The Goewey / Gowey would be about 1750 to 1830 I Lansingburgh Near Troy. I under stand that Lansingburgh is part of Troy. Now there are two folks John Henry Goewey born 1810 and his only know sister was Elizabeth Goewey was born 1806 or 1807. Now again another line thinks he had tree sisters and one brother. I have ran out of places to check in the census. Elizabeth Goewey's death cert. says she was from Lansingburgh. Her only daughter Martha Elizabeth Norton Grand parents moved there where her parents died at, when in 1830 Goewey's came to Clinton county. If this will help. I know there are goewey's there but I do not know if they are relatated or not. 1850 Federal census has them there. Fred
Hi Patti, (and someone looking for Goewy) I couldn't fit in going to the Troy Lib., but ducked into the Watervliet Lib. to do your look-up. There was no 1850 directory available, as there would have been in Troy, so I checked the 1854, which was the closest year they had. page 14 in the WEST Troy section: Gray William, carpenter, h cor. broad and auburn Gray Joseph, saloon, whitehall, bet. union and utica That is how it was listed, small letters and punctuation. The "h" means house; "cor." is corner. The streets were Broad, Auburn, Whitehall, Union and Utica. The street names have changed ,of course. There were lots of Grays in the CITY of Troy section in 1860, in case you may have had family there. I also checked the 1905 directory just for kicks and there were 11 Grays listed on page 629 in the Watervliet and Green Island section. Gray Anna, widow George jr., h. 529 Broadway " Arthur B., machinist Arsenal, h. 1345 Third Av. " Charles E., hairdresser, 36 George G.I. (Green Island) h. 34 do (=ditto=house same address) " David, variety, 514 Second Av., h. 516 do " Edward J., special officer, h. 147 George, G. I. " George W., tinsmith, 416 Third Av., bds (boards) 594 Sixth Av. " Henry C., puncher, h. 594 Sixth Av. " Mabel Mrs., milliner, 46 George, G. I. h. do " Vivian, plumber, 416 Third Av., h. do " William E., druggist, 533 Broadway, h 529 do " William G., shirtcutter, h. 911 Twenty third Have fun comparing this list with the names you had to begin with, and comparing the some of the names and addresses above. I didn't have GOEWEY info with me but noticed the name on page 628 of the 1905 Troy Directory, in the Watervliet and Green Island section. Goewey Henry C., carpenter, h. Arch near Cohoes Rd. My great grandparents , grandfather and family (JOHN, JANE, WILLIAM and JAMES REYNOLDS) lived right across Cohoes Rd. on Elm St. We think it used to be called Crandell Lane. Have found Crandell Lane in the street listings, but not on any map YET!! Wish I had had time to do more, but hope these listings will be for your families . Sheila
Hi, I didn't realize that I hadn't gone farther with Lohnes, but now I have corrected that: http://members.tripod.com/~JeffriesB/FileLohnesClum __________________________________ Yahoo! Mail - PC Magazine Editors' Choice 2005 http://mail.yahoo.com
oh yes I reread your note I have done both of those, years ago. A recheck is on going now. I am trying to find Lansingburgh records. and the Archive of the state of NY. Fred
I have been looking for 50 years and have tried that also. What I would like is someone to check the state archives for records of and in Lansingburgh or even Troy. I found many records of Goewey's in Essex County NY. I found them in the 1830 census there. I have suppected they were the group of Wayne county. Now I have proof of it in a much later News paper in Essex. Do you know of anyone that is reliable that can check the Library in the Archives? I have done the census on line done the local historians people on line Local Genealogy societies. If you can think of anything else that is in New York. I have also checked the Civil War records and found two of the sons. The one I just found will tell me where he was born and married and where he was buried. Elizabeth Goewey Norton death cert, only know sister has the wrong people as her parents. They were her in laws. One child Martha and she messed up. And ideas ? I am sure ready for it. Every time I do a google search I only fine my Quires that I have left in each state on line. I have a sub to Ancestry and I think I have found the Crossman"s of Vermont decend from Jacob Crossman and Linda Claflin. I had a book with them in it and the birth of the full family. They came from Mass but not taughton that was back one generation from Jacob. I took all of the 1830 census and checked each man listed to see if he had any daughters that might have been born in the slot for a person that would have been born in 1812. I found one that fits real good into the family. I also checked to see if that family would check in to the birth of her first child. I found the three sons and several daughters. I found one of them becasue a grandson named Hall was at the place of the grandparents in 1850. I was down to two girls two to go I found in the 1880 the single sister of living with her brother. That left the one who could have been mine. as all the other girls were much younger. The one missing would have been born in between two of the boys. mmm Still not any proof, I have nothing in the State index on her birth but only some of the family. I suppect another town in another township. The early ones moved around a lot. So goes that battle, the last of my dead ends. I even found my first cousins after 60 years between my father and I. I gave up and left notes all over for Chicago. Bingo one of them found it. Later down the line. Fred
Have you tried my search engine with various spellings Goeway, Goewey Also try the Rensselaer County web page search engine. --- [email protected] wrote: > Do you have any goewey's ? > > > ==== NYRENSSE Mailing List ==== > Have you added your names to the Troy Surname > Roster? > http://www.connorsgenealogy.com/troy/troysurnames.html > > __________________________________ Yahoo! Hi Scott, I am delighted to hear from you. I bought a federal style brick house which was structurally sound shell at the time, but also eligible for inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places. So I know precisely how all consuming restoration projects can be. I look forward to hearing from you, whenever that may be. Sincerely, Leslie ----- Original Message ----- From: "Scott E. Chris, I'm not sure if you had access to a copy of the whole page of the original census record where you found your Grey. Often, the census enumerator wrote tee name of the street on the edge of the page, parallel to the page edge, and then wrote the numbers of each house as he visited it in the columns. I know I found a few of the addresses of my relatives that way. Hope this helps. Pat
