Hi, I found the name of the church and that it started during the Rev. War - now what I need to know is: Does this church still exist? If so, is it in operation today? Are there any early records available anywhere? Barbara __________________________________ Yahoo! FareChase: Search multiple travel sites in one click. http://farechase.yahoo.com
Hi, I have found persons buried in the Schaghticoke Lutheran Church Cemetery, but I have not found any records or info as to when that church was founded - does anyone out there know the ans. to these questions? List members on the Rensselaer County Mailing List are invited to take a look at the website of the Troy Irish Genealogy Society - TIGS. There are several name searchable data bases relating to Rensselaer County on this site as well as some interesting photographs and stories dealing with Troy that may be of interest to Rensselaer County researchers.. It should be noted that all of the transcription projects worked on by TIGS cover the general population and are not limited to Irish surnames. Site address is: Troy Irish Genealogy Society website http://www.rootsweb.com/~nytigs/ As a Rensselaer County researcher you may be interested in a major new transcription project dealing with Rensselaer County records. The Troy Irish Genealogy Society is now working on automating the Rensselaer County Marriage Index. This 10 Volume Marriage Index of Rensselaer County marriages from 1908 to 1935 has over 60,000 names. Currently we have about 23 volunteers from all across the county and Canada working on this marriage index project. Work is now being done on Volume I which has 5,000 marriages which translates into 10,000 names. The original pages are scanned by TIGS members and the resulting pdf files are then sent to the volunteers working on the project as an attachment to an email along with an Excel spreadsheet for data entry. The first scanning of the source documents covered Brides and Grooms records with the letters A., B. and C. The data for these records is now 99.9% finished and proof read. This part of the index had 1,848 names which is almost 20% of the total file of 10,000 names. A second scanning session was held October 28, 2005 and all the Brides and Grooms records for the letters D. through K. were finished. We now have quite a few files that can be sent to the current volunteers plus any new helpers. If you would like to take part in this exciting new project, why not consider joining the TIGS mailing list and volunteer to help with the transcription of these valuable and historical records. The TIGS website has a easy enrollment function to get on the mailing list. If you want to volunteer as a transcriber, please write me off list at: [email protected] and send me your name, address and telephone number. I will then email you the Excel spreadsheet and a pdf file of names to be data entered. Regards, Bill McGrath Clifton Park, NY
Hi Listers, I am back researching my Rensselaer County roots and wonder if someone can help me. Russell GRANT moved to Rensselaer County from Preston, CT., about 1818. His wife, Abigail, died in 1823 at Sand Lake. Russell then married Sally PERKINS of Berlin. They had two children, then separated in 1830. Russell GRANT then moved north to Kingsbury (Fort Edward), Washington County. Is anyone else researching this family? I would like to know what happened to Sally PERKINS GRANT. Thank you, Janet

ANNOUNCING NEW DATABASE: DEATHS REPORTED IN TROY, NY CITY DIRECTORIES This message is being sent to: Rensselaer County List Troy Irish Genealogy Society List Albany County List Saratoga County List Schenectady County List Genealogy-NYS List Irish-NY-Troy List NY Irish List Chenango County List NY-Hudson River List NY-Old-News List NY-Rollcall List NY-Mohawk-Valley List NY-Warren-Washington-Saratoga County List The message can be forwarded to other lists where you feel it would be appropriate. If posted to any other lists, please copy me at: [email protected] If you are researching relatives with a TROY, NY area connection, you will be interested in this new on-line, name searchable, data base of over 700 names of Troy Area residents who died in 1901-1902. This information was extracted from Troy City Directories and information covers not only Troy but also data from the Watervliet/Green Island and Cohoes/Waterford sections of the City Directory. Anyone who has ever used City Directories as a genealogy research tool appreciates the wealth of information available in these books. Starting with the 1902 Troy City Directory, this data base was a first step by the Troy Irish Genealogy Society to capture this information and portray it in a name searchable format that could be used by researchers who do not have access to Troy City Directories. It should be noted that these records, like all the TIGS data bases, cover the general population in the area and are NOT restricted to Irish surnames. The information in this data base may include, in addition to the name of the individual: Date of death. Name of surviving spouse. Name of deceased spouse. Occupation of deceased and name of employer. Street address and city of residence of deceased. As time permits, data in subsequent years of the City Directories will be added to the on-line records on the TIGS website. You can view these records by going to the TIGS website located at: Troy Irish Genealogy Society website http://www.rootsweb.com/~nytigs/ and click on TIGS PROJECTS. We invite you to explore the TIGS website where you will find local history articles, resources and genealogy research tips as well as several data bases and a number of interesting Troy Area photographs. Also, you can search your surnames in the following additional records automated by TIGS members and other volunteers: Burden Iron Company Steam Mill Payroll Records. (8,236 names) Troy Area Marriage Records. (1,448 names) Troy Area Death Records. (6,031 names) Index-History of the Troy Police Department. (668 names) Bank Officers in Troy Banks From 1801-1891. (299 names) Prominent Citizens of Troy, NY & Rensselaer County. (1,800 names) These data bases are part of a continuing effort by the Troy Irish Genealogy Group to make available on line, Troy area records, that may be of interest to genealogy researchers, especially those outside the Troy area. I have one last question about ordering these films from the FHC, on the 1855 are three numbers Troy 549885 Rensselaer County 549886 Rensselaer County 549887 for 1865 Troy 549891 Rensselaer County 549892 Rensselaer County 549893 The FHC film notes do not denote which film Schaghticoke is on. It would save me $6.50 if I didn't have to order the two extra films. Has anyone researched Schaghticoke to know which 1855 and 1865 film I need to order? If not it's only $6.50 and I'll order all four. Thanks, Cindy --------------------------------- Yahoo! FareChase - Search multiple travel sites in one click.
Thank you to Rogers and Sharon for the help, I have a FHC right around the block from me in Grove City Ohio. I was having trouble locating the film because I had seen separate town names but didn't see Schaghticoke. I'll go tomorrow and order the films. Have a nice evening, Cindy --------------------------------- Yahoo! FareChase - Search multiple travel sites in one click.

Cindy The 1855 New York State census for Rensselaer County is on LDS microfilm #0549886, according to website http://www.frontiernet.net/~halsey1/ny/1855b.htm. That microfilm should contain all communities in the County other the City of Troy. I haven't located an online version of this film. Oh, good grief. Thank you so much, Lynn. You just saved me another 10 hours or so, going through the Rensselaer films. I just looked at my 1860 scan again, and by jove if it doesn't say West Troy, Albany Co. I really appreciate the help. Lansingburgh listings are intermingled with Troy, they are not in a seperate section like Cohoes and Watervliet. Lansingburgh was and still is considered a part of Troy. Kristin
Hello Listers: I'm having difficulty with the wards in the 1855 and 1865 NY State Census for Troy, and was hoping someone would have some information for me. I've had both films on rental for a while now, and expected to find my ancestors in the 4th Ward for at least 1 of the 2 state census years. They were there at the time, and are listed in the 4th Ward of the Village of W. Troy in the 1860 federal. I have looked at parts of all wards in the 1865, and each ward is for the City of Troy. Do you know if this would include, or is the same as the Village of W. Troy in the 1860? Also, were the same wards used for 1860 as were used for the 1855 or 1865? Did the boundaries change? I can't locate mine in the 4th ward for either state census, and the 1855 is a mess. (If you've looked at that film, you know what I mean - it's almost illegible.) Any guidance anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated. I don't seem to be able to find any detailed ward information for the area online. Best Wishes, Judy Herbert Researching Hoare, Hogan & Kennelly in Troy.
