    1. Re: [Rensselaer] New Mt. Ida Cemetery
    2. New Mt. Ida cemetary is very small in comparison to Old Mt. Ida and many other cemeteries in the area. It is completely fenced in and easily walked in a couple of hours if you are searching for a stone, much less time if you know the exact location. It would be difficult to drive into but you can easily park at the curb in front of it and walk in. It is located in a very nice residential area on the east side of Troy. The problem may be the growth of shrubbery around old stones. It is kept mowed but the shrubs not trimmed. I am not at all good at dimensions, but I would say that it is smaller than a football field, if that helps. I don't know if there are records and if there are I have no idea where they could be located. Perhaps someone else on the list knows. If you need directions let me know. It is very close to my home. 2. Jeremy Taylor
    3. Hi, I was wondering if anyone can give me any information about the New Mt. Ida Cemetery? I came across some information indicating that one of my BUSS ancestors is buried there, and I am hoping that I will be able to find the grave and see if there are any other family graves there. How big is the cemetery? Would I have any luck just wandering around and looking, or is it too big for that? Are there any records available for the burials that took place there? Any information would be greatly appreciated! 1. SPEANBURGH, George B. & Flora L. WAGNER Albany & Rensselaer Co.
    2. Wendy Baker
    3. I am looking for the family (ancestors and decendants) of George B. Speanburg and wife Flora L.WAGNER. Everything here is what I've confirmed through census, SSDI, cemetery, and military records, and death certificates. George B. SPEANBURGH, b Feb 1864, d 1943, mar abt 1888 to Flora L. WAGNER, b Jul 1870, d 1953, Lived from 1900 census through 1930 in Valley Falls (Town of Pittstown), Rennselaer Co.NY. Both buried in Elmwood Cemetery, Schaghticoke Their children: (1) Harry SPEANBURGH, b Feb 1889, d Aug 27, 1936, mar to Estelle CROSS, b 1895, d 1920, both buried in Elmwood Cemetery, Schaghticoke (2) Naioma SPEANBURGH, b Aug 1891 (3) Una SPEANBURGH, b May 16, 1892, d Nov 1966, prob never married, buried Elmood Cemetery, Schaghticoke (4) Paul SPEANBURGH, b Apr 1893 (5) Earl SPEANBURGH, b Dec 12, 1895 Schaghticoke, d.1959, mar to Eva Unknown, b 1895, d 1973, both buried in Elmwood Cemetery, Schaghticoke. They had 4 sons and 1 daughter for which I have some information. (6) William SPEANBURGH, b Mar 17, 1898, d Sept 27, 1950, buried Elmwood Cemetery, Schaghticoke (7) America SPEANBURGH, b Mar 1900 (8) Jay SPEANBURH, b Mar 8, 1902 Valley Falls, NY, d Apr 21, 1959 Baltimore, MD, bur St. Peters Cemetery, Baltimore, mar (a) Catharine Livingston bet 1930-32, divorced before 1953, mar (b) unknown- possibly Mary. They had 2 daughters, of which I have some information. (9) Estelle SPEANBURGH, b 1905, 1988, bur Elmwood Cemetery, Schaghticoke, prob never married. (10) George SPEANBURGH, b abt 1908, prob died bet 1910-1920 (11) Lester SPEANBURG, b. Feb 16, 1910, d Feb 13, 1982 (12) Flora SPEANBURGH, b abt 1914 As for the parents of George B. Speanburgh, I have a dilemma. I believe he came from Coeymans Hollow, Albany Co. However, I have 2 different families I find him in, with the right age and name. The 1880 Census for Coeymans shows George B. is the 16 yr old son of James and Willian H. SPENEBURGH, working in a papermill. But George B. on the 1870 Coeymans census shows he is 5 yrs old, attending school and living with William and Loisa SPEENBURG. I've discounted spellings as I've seen about 5 or 6 different ways it has been spelled within the known relatives. It is possible he's a nephew, living with William and Loisa, as there isn't relationship mentioned on that census. But I just don't know. Does anyone have any information on the Speanburgh families in either county? Thanks in advance. Wendy

    1. A New Play - The Trial of Bat Shea - March 12, 2006
    2. In yesterday's Troy Record there was an article about a play - The Trial of Bat Shea - an adaptation of the book by Jack Casey. The play will be presented at Revolution Hall at 425 River Street, Troy on March 12, 2006 at 5 P.M. The article stated that, "the event will also feature Irish music, food, and the debut of a new Brown's Brewing Co. beer - "Bat Shea Red"." There is a website - www.batshea.com with information regarding the play. I thought some of our local people would be interested in learning about it.

    3. I have all five of the LDS microfilms the local LDS Library for the next two weeks. I just looked at them for the first time on Saturday. I spent about 3 hours browsing on my family plots and still could use a couple of more sessions to finish my stuff up. I see that it takes all of the films to research a line. The index is not complete but at least most members of a family are found in it. The index leads you to the plot volumes. For example, my grandfather's entry says Miter, Frank H 1-410 49-5. The 1-410 refers to Volume 1 of the plot books, page 410. Frankly, I cannot yet figure out what the '49-5' refers you to. The number is either missing for an individual or is a unique number for each member of a plot. Maybe someone on the list knows what they mean? The plot diagrams, as many of you know, contain a list of the interred, the grave number and, most important for looking up the interment record, the BURIAL Number. This record contains Name, Birthplace, Age, Death Date, Cause of Death, Birthdate, Section and Plot Number, Volume and Page Number for the Plot, Funeral Director, Next of Kin. I can do a limited number of lookups over the next two weeks. If there is a great deal of interest, I will extend the films for another 6 weeks. I will not be able to copy and pictures as that is quite time consuming. I'll be glad to get the burial information on a few individuals and give you the Section and Plot numbers. In addition, I can, if there are not too many, list the burial numbers and names and age at death for the individuals in a given plot. I may have to cry 'uncle' if there are too many requests so get in line early. Priority for information for me: 1. Burial Number and Name 2. Date of Death or Burial and Name 3. Name Brad Miter

Arent VAN DYKE (son of Louwrenz Van Dyke and Maria Van der Poel) and Catherine VAN BUREN (daug of Maas and Catherine Van Buren) have a daug Catherine born about 1787. I believe it is this same Catherine VAN DYKE that md. John A. WHITBECK (acc. to Barb Jeffries' web site s/o Andries Whitbeck and Dirckje Vosburgh). Their daughter Margaret WHITBECK b 31 Dec 1805 marries Bartholomaus Smith, someone that there seems to be little info on except that he was b.c. 1801. Their son William James SMITH b.c. 1839 marries Martha Ann SEE, d/o John See and Anna GARDINIER. I am not sure whether I've placed Catherine Van Dyke correctly, so thanks if you can help. David See
