Thank you, It may have been easy to obtain for others but not for me and it could be that I did not have the information exactly correct but I think I did pretty darn well considering what I had to go on at that time. No I don't believe I have tried the NYS Civil War Archives Records. I sent to NARA Wash. DC and they returned the paperwork to me saying no such record found or something like this. I'm on the trail of this now but still have to dig out the paper work that was returned to me from NARA. Well you made me dig. . . . . . . . I sent to NARA (Wash. DC) on FORM NATF 85 - this was back on Jan. 4, 2005 asking for Full Pension file for Porter, Claudius H. S. -Civil War-NY-Co. B 169th Reg. - Private b. abt. 1832 Mass(?) d. abt. 1864-1866 place unknown - widow claimant - Jane E. Porter - maiden name Barton (054,145)- under place where veteran lived after service I put - if he returned from the War, probably Troy, Renss. Co., NY and the form that was returned & there was a check in the box next to this statement "We did not locate a file which matches exactly the information that you provided, we did locate a pension application file for WC 54,145 for a soldier named Porter, Calvin who served in Co. B. 125th inf for the Civil War. He was b. Troy, Renss Co. NY and died Feb. 1, 1907. If this is your subject, please fill out the enclosed NATF FORM and resubmit." [dated Feb. 1, 2005] I did not resubmit. Do you have his pension file - does it refer at all or give any information in regard to his wife and her pension etc. Thank You again. I am looking for information to prove or disprove my suspicion that Charles Duane Hall is my 4th great-grandfather, father of Henry Merchant Hall. Charles Duane Hall was born 09 March 1758 in Westerly, Rhode Island and according to his Rev. War pension application, moved and settled in the Stephentown/Petersburgh/Grafton area about 1787. He appears in the 1840 census in Brunswick and is last found on the 1841 NY pensioner's list. Henry Merchant Hall was born 04 July 1787 in Rhode Island and by 1810 was living in Arlington, Vermont. By 1835 he was living in Fort Edward, NY and moved thereafter to Easton and Greenwich - dying in 1868 in Greenwich. I am trying to prove this connection and to uncover Charles Duane Hall's wife and other children. Any and all assistance is greatly appreciated! Nancy Barnett > I was just wondering what happened to all of the Rensselaer County > researchers - maybe we should do a roll call.
I am looking for any trace of the McCabe family in Rensselaer County in the 1840's. Hugh McCabe born in Ireland about 1807 and his wife Elizabeth McCabe born in Ireland?? about 1803 and their daughter Mary McCabe born March 15, 1844 in Troy? I have looked in the census records and ordered one roll of microfilm from the LDS center with no luck. I would love to get my hands on newspaper or church records but have no idea what denomination they are or if they even lived in Troy. I have the death certificate of my gg grandmother Mary McCabe Miller and it lists Hugh and Elizabeth as the parents and Troy NY as her place of birth. Death certificates are probably the least accurate as far as birth records go but so far that is all I have. If anyone has any tips please email me at [email protected] Thanks Don Karnish Omaha [email protected] ----- Original Message ----- From: "Nancy Barnett" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, April 07, 2006 8:05 PM Subject: [Rensselaer] Re: Roll call >I am looking for information to prove or disprove my suspicion that > Charles Duane Hall is my 4th great-grandfather, father of Henry > Merchant Hall. > > Charles Duane Hall was born 09 March 1758 in Westerly, Rhode Island > and according to his Rev. "Present" My great grandfather, Thomas (O)ROURKE, came from Ireland (Co. Kerry) about 1851(?) -- 2 or 3 years before his wife came over. She was Ellen (perhpas Mary Ellen?) MAHONEY (maybe from Co. Cork). They ended up here in Iowa in 1857. Tom and Ellen were married in Ireland and had two sons there who didn't survive -- one dying from fever at age 2, the other from accidental burns from a hot water spill. They had two children in N.Y. State -- a daughter, Ellen Agness, born in 1855 and a son, Patrick James ("Peter"), born at Castleton on Hudson in Mar. 1856 -- records vary on his birth year, but he had a sister born in Iowa in Jan. 1858. I am wondering where Tom and Ellen landed in America. I haven't found any clues of their arriving at Castle Garden, so I wonder if they might have landed in Canada. Would someone on this list know of a path that would have brought them to Castleton? Some other clues: When they came to Iowa, the O'ROURKEs travelled with 3 other families -- MAHONEYs, O'CONNORs & O'KEEFEs. They may have all lived in Rensselaer County. Before coming to Iowa, they dropped the O and became ROURKEs. Theses were all farm families -- except possibly the O'Keefes who seem not to have settled in the same place here (Johnson County, Iowa). I'd appreciate any help. Good luck with your research, everyone! Janet

Barbara and Rensselaer researchers, I have been on this list for about 1 year and have read much information that has been interesting and sometimes helpful. Daily, I look for what is new from this list as well as a couple other lists. At times I have requested information and tried to share some information also. There are also websites of members, such as yours, that provide research help as well as some genealogy about selected families. One of those families is a Simmons line on your site. I have yet to find a connection to my line but I sincerely believe they are connected somehow. My 3rd Great Grandfather and Grandmother have proven to be difficult to locate their parents, my 4th Great Grandparents. The following is some information about William Simmons and Betsey Ives (and their children) that I have assembled from many sources, relatives and friends. If you or anyone can help me locate my 4th Great Grandparents, I will be indebted to that person for some time to come! Thanks in advance for any help that I may receive! Regards, Wayne Simmons . I need marriage of Noyes and Susan Madison JONES. I would love to find newspaper article or obituary on NOEL JONES b 1834? in Rensselaer Co second son of NOEL and Susan Madison JONES. HE did not make trip to ILLinois. Family said died in NY before they left around 1855. I have had no luck locating data. He was not an infant as family said he was almost of full manhood.
