So . . . when I was a child in the mid-1950s and my family (at the time living in Syosset) would be visiting my grandparents George (son of Jacob Gerhart and Emilie nee Shaefer) and Annie Gerhart, I would be sent to visit two couples. I never was clear on the relationship to my grandfather, only that they were "cousins." It was many years later that I came to be told that there was a bit of a "misunderstanding" with some of the other Gerharts in College Point. I would like to discover where these two couples fit in to my tree. I also see from various census documents (something I never heard mention of) that my grandfather George had a brother named Jacob! Wow. 1. Fred Gerhart and his wife Alice. I'd like to know who Freddie's parents are, and maybe Alice's parentage. I rarely saw these people, but know they were family. 2. Same with Johnnie and Helen Gerhart. They lived together, but I think they were brother and sister. Johnnie had a black antique car that he seemed to be waxing and polishing every time I walked over there. Who are their parents? I find this fascinating. So many Gerharts I never knew about. My grandmother Annie told me shortly before she died that there were hurt feelings == something to do with someone not invited to my mother's wedding breakfast before the reception. I saw your St. Fidelis book on Amazon -- will be ordering in conjunction with College Point Images of America. It was such a beautiful little church -- and now the Blessed Mother's grotto is a parking lot. I would appreciate any information you can provide.
