So..... on Ancestry I elect to search the 1930 census.... pick "exact" for my choices.... which are born 1905 in Sweden, located in "New York City (All Boroughs)..... and use wild cards ... Gust*. No last name and no other information. Now, if you do the above, you will see only 23 hits. Let's look at any that are in Queens..... and any name that even comes close to a something green.... Hmmmm.... what about Gustas Shelgren on the results..... .... right borough and right birth year and place for head of family. So you click on view record....and see 3 people, with Florence as spouse age 22, Roger with the age of 22 .... hmmmmm... who is Roger.... So I checked your 1925 census to see if your Gus had a brother Roger the same age...but no..... Would you have stopped there? No, you must relax your assumptions, one of them is that Ancestry is correct with their transcription....so we click on view original record and are at ED 41-536 (Ancestry drops the prefix), Sheet 14B (image 25 of 32) and discover that Roger is a son and is actually 2 2/12 years old. Gustav? is a carpenter. I'm willing to bet that this is your missing family member. Joel Weintraub Dana Point, CA Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
