    1. [NYQUEENS] Burials at "CITY CEMETERY" or "POTTERS FIELD?"
    2. After viewing 15 microfilmed, Manhattan death certificates of babies circa 1920, I was shocked that the burial location of the majority was "City Cemetery." According to one of the pros, that means Hart Island. Melinda Hunt began the Hart Island Project that you can check out at http://hartisland.net/wwwebs/ It's a pretty sad place. Disintegrated and missing records. Mass burials. Unmarked graves. Since the Department of Corrections' prisoners do the burying, visiting there is problematic. Impoverished children and adults were buried here. Babies who died at New York Foundling were buried here, as were babies of unwed or young mothers. If you have a death certificate with City Cemetery or Potters Field stamped on it, please submit the information to the Hart Island Project using the form at> http://www.hartisland.net/wwwebs/Contact/tabid/134/Default.aspx ( You may need to register to submit.) Please include, in this order, the following: County of Death: Date of Death: Certificate Number: Name of Deceased: Age at Death: Parents' Names and/or relatives names of deceased Your name and email address This is one of those ongoing project where you can make a difference!
