    3. The German Genealogy Group will hold its next monthly meeting on Thursday, February 3rd at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, The Family History Center at 160 Washington Avenue, Plainview, New York. The program will feature Debbie Van Cura presenting "The Beer Gardens of Queens: Pork, Pilsner and Polka." This lecture will trace the history of beer gardens from the early 1800's in lower Manhattan to the growth of Little Germany and then the development of these pleasure gardens in Queens. An orientation session for beginners and newcomers will be held at 7 PM and the regular meeting will start at 7:30. Among the many benefits of membership are a newsletter published ten times a year, a database of surnames, a translation service, a lending library, interesting guest speakers at the meetings, mentoring and a start up kit of helpful information. We welcome all who are interested in researching their Germanic origins. There is no fee for guests. Visit our web site at http://www.GermanGenealogyGroup.com/ While there, be sure to check the three Brooklyn church databases, naturalization databases, the NYC Death Index which has been updated to include the years 1920-1929, and the Grooms Index.
