When the Town of Hempstead was split after the Revolution, this location became located in the new Town of North Hempstead, but a very short distance from the Hempstead town line. I am not certain if the Town of Hempstead had a court house in the early 1800s - if it did, it would probably have been in the "town spot," in the village of Hempstead.
