Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/WUB.2ACI/1382.1 Message Board Post: You didn't provide a year, but probably the minister's name was the Rev. Max J. H. Walenta, pastor of St. Mark's German Evangelical Reformed Church, located at Grove St. and Onderdonk Avenue, in Ridgewood, Queens. He was pastor from May 1910 into 1957. The original pastor was Henry Frech, 1906-10. Prior to 1919 the church was the Die Deutsche Evangelische Protestantische Volkskirche; in 1919 the name of St. Mark's Ger. Evang. Reformed Church was adopted; the word "German" was dropped in 1930, and in 1962 it became known as St. Mark's United Church of Christ. The church is still active and is located at current #601 Onderdonk Ave., Ridgewood NY 11385. Pastor Walenta resided at 1739 Grove St. (between Cypress Ave. & Covert, now Seneca Ave.) into 1924 when he then moved to 1666 Grove St., between St. Nicholas Ave. & Cypress Ave. The Roman Catholic parish covering this general area is St. Brigid (org. 1882) located at St. Nicholas Ave. & Linden St., on the Brooklyn-Queens border.
