It's summer vacation again, so I get to spend a few weeks back at genealogy research! Hoping to tie up some loose threads from the last time I subscribed to this list. I've been working on the line of George W KOBER and his wife Rose. Last time I found them was in the 1920 census for NYC Queens, in Woodhaven on 96th Street. Their household included Rose's mother, Anna KROUSE or KRAUSE (can't read handwriting). First, does anyone have access to the next state census (1925?) who could check that address (I think #729) and see if this family was still there? The tricky thing is that George's father lived around the block (he was also named George, but I think by then, he would have been too old to still be around), so that's something to watch for. I'd like to know if Geo and Rose are listed there in the 1925 census, or moved, or maybe died?? Second, is there any source for online index for either death certs for Queens, or index for obits published in a local Queens paper (not the NYT, I know our family wouldn't make it into the newsprint there). I am trying to locate when they died, especially Rose and Anna, as they are my blood line. The tricky thing is that family reports were that Rose was divorced, but I don't know if George was husband #1 or #2! Tricky item #2 is that Rose's brother, my grandfather, conveniently changed his name to John T. McCANN without bothering to mess with those pesky court papers, and I had been told KRAUSE was Anna's *maiden* name, so the census entries make me more puzzled. Besides, all family that knew enough of her to hand the stories down to me are all dead now, too. Oh, the secrets that we'll never know! Anyhow, if anyone could help me w that 1925 lookup, or has any thoughts on how to navigate this problem (obits? Death cert for Anna or Rose?), I'd appreciate it. Jacqi in CA
