    3. I am posting this, not as a personal criticism of Elizabeth, but as a caution to all of us. The statement >>I am hoping that someday they will have all dates for all counties.<<, cause me to take pause because the information transcribed on the death database is there because of those who take the time, on a voluntary basis to do so. If the >>good friend and formidable researcher <grin><< had transcribed some of the page by page information that was looked at, it would add to the wealth of free records available to search.... I understand what Elizabeth feels and why she feels it, and I am sure she meant nothing by writing it, but I believe that we should all be cautious about what they write, as it appears to sound not appreciative of what HAS been already done for us all. Just my 2 cents.... New York City Death Index 1891 to 1894 Manhattan Only 1895 to 1897 Manhattan and Brooklyn Only 1898 to 1936 All Boroughs I am hoping that someday they will have all dates for all counties. Today my good friend and formidable researcher <grin> found the death record for my great, great grandfather by looking at the films at an FHC page by page. Yep, Johan Jacob Frey has been found. 3. Gail, I am a bit dumbfounded by your words whether they were intended as a criticism of me personally or not. I have praised the people who work so hard to compile these lists time and time again. It is an unquestionable incredible source that has made family history much easier for many of us. I myself have volunteered to transcribe data not because it is an easy job to do or I have time on my hands but as a way of showing my appreciation for what has been done and to help fellow researchers. My intent was solely to point out the need for everyone using data bases to LOOK and READ the entire website or webpage before you begin typing in names. NOT ALL YEARS are included especially for QUEENS. If you don't look first to see what years are covered you are wasting your time and setting yourself up for disappointment. My research has become limited to what I can find on the net or what I can get by writing letters and so on. I can no longer go to the FHC and have to rely on the talents, knowledge and generosity of others to break down my brick walls. To be honest, I am not sure if anyone appreciates what the men and women who work so hard to put records on the net more than I do. Have a good day. Elizabeth V.
