Depending upon the year, death certificates are indexed by name, And age and so you don't have to scour death records for an entire Year. You just check the death indexes for Queens. If the death Is much earlier and there are only death registers or libers (one Line in a book), the they are listed by the first letter of the surname By year , month and date and it takes no time to look through the first Letter of the last name for a certain year. Hope this is helpful to people as finding records at the Munciipal Archives is not difficult. Even if you don't have the year you can Look through death indexes by years for each boro and go through Many years in a short period of time. If the name you are searching Is common, then you would have to read each certificate to see if you Can figure out if you have the right person. The certificates are all On microfilm and you can copy down the information or pay for a raised Seal copy which you take with you that very day.
