    1. Queens 1925 AD/ED from Address now Online
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/WUB.2ACI/1439 Message Board Post: I'm pleased to announce that we have added Queens 1925 to the databases at: http://www.stevemorse.org/nyc/nyc.php What that means is that it is possible to find an AD/ED for a Queens address so that you can then look it up on the 1925 NY State Census films available from the FHL and other places. This was a VERY difficult transcription project to complete. I never felt I was in a "groove", mainly because I had 4 windows open on the computer, and a drawn map on my lap...to do the transcription. To do this project, I had a 1925 map of Queens which showed mainly the old street names and on which I had drawn the 1925 Election District and Assembly District (AD/ED) boundaries. The EDs were drawn from a 1925 FHL fiche of maps that I had also scanned. I also had a 1949 map of Queens that showed some old names after the new names, and I also had our street name change tables we had previously done. When I transcribed streets from within an ED, I included all the modern street names, and as many of the older names as I could see on the FHL map, the 1925 map, or the street table. Many of the FHL old names were illegible, and I sometimes put in a possible older name into an ED that was in the "vicinity". The greatest accuracy of finding an ED would be to use the new names, but I hope enough of the old names are there to make searching on them feasible. Old names appear on the dropdown list of the utility with a ** after their names. Eventually we will give more directions on the website for searching Queens for AD/EDs. You need to know the address and the cross streets to find your AD/ED number. Since both names and numbers changed during Queens 1910s/1920s massive street change program...it's going to be a challenge, but we have tools to help you on the One Step site. In addition, I will look at an FHL fiche that shows AD/EDs for communities of Queens in 1925 and see if I can get that table online. I'm also in the process of revising the 1915 Queens database we have online and that should be changed in the next few days. Enjoy
