Of course the "365 days" information this person gave you was erroneous, but you are still unlikely to find someone who will volunteer to search 31 days of newspapers for an obituary that may or may not exist. If you know this person died in Queens, you can request a death certificate from the NYC Dept of Health. This will give you the date, residence, place of burial, etc. http://www.nyc.gov/html/doh/html/vr/vr.shtml Once you know the date of death and community in which the person lived, send $8 to Queens Library for an obit search. They will know what newspaper is most likely to have an obituary for someone who lived in that community.
