On 4/3/05 (12:25:02 PM MDT), in a posting to the New York County Ancestry Baord that was 'gatewayed' to NYNEWYOR-L@rootsweb.com, Pete Gonigam (gonigam@hotmail.com) asked, "Does anyone know where Mitspadt Kil was? Somewhere near New Amsterdam, apparently, but that could have covered a lot of territory." It's my understanding that the Dutch term 'kill' refers to a creek and this might have been the Dutch spelling of Maspeth Kill which is now known as Newtown Creek, located on the northwest part of Long Island and forms part of the border between Kings and Queens Counties. I hope this information is useful or, at least, interesting. Regards, Walter Greenspan
