    1. Convalencent Home for Hebrew Children
    2. Hi Arlene, I spent the first fifty years of my life on the Rockaway peninsula (which is only about 12 miles long) and know where St John's Home for Boys is located. I went to high school (1957 - 1961) at Stella Maris High School, right across the street from St. John's and both of them were located on the 'boardwalk', facing the ocean. It was a great place to grow up but of course, I was not living in a 'convalescent home'. I believe that Stella Maris was once a hotel and may have been an orphanage as one time, too. I hope this helps a little in your research. Pat McHale

    3. Pat, My father was raised on the Rockaway peninsula and his father was a jeweler - Abraham Schraga. Abe died in 1947, the year I was born, so I never knew him. By any chance do you remember his Schraga Jewelry Store. It was in several locations on Rockaway. Was the Convalescent Home still in operation when you were in H.S.? By any chance, do you have any pictures of it? Probably not. I was so shocked to hear it was still standing. Any memories of the building? I hope to make a trip to Rockaway and see it one day. Thanks for your reply.
