    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: JimHaas304 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newyork.counties.queens/4169.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Quoting from Robert A.Hecht's "A History of College Point" written in 1976, "William Lawrence recevied 900 acres of land in what is now known as College Point, but which was once known as Tew's Neck. I these first years (ca 1645 ) there were two brothers living in Flushing, Nathaniel and Michael Tue, or Tew, after whom Tew's Neck was presumably named. Very little is known about them, save that they probably didn't settle in the Point. It is possible that they originally received a land grant here, which was recorded on a map or deed, but which they did not take up. In any case, for a number of years College Point was known as Tew's Neck, it's firt official name." As far as is known, there has never been confirmation of a "White Stone" in the area east of College Point called Whitestone, though from time to time I have seen newspaper references to it. I have nothing to offer with regard to Salter's Swamp and Rocky Hill No. 46. Jim Haas Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
