Isn't the funeral home listed or stamped on the certificate, if so you can see if they have a file listing. Also if a cemetery is mentioned, possibly you can contact them as well and inquire? In order to get a death certificate, I have to know the date he died. I know what cemetery he's buried in, but it's huge and I wouldn't know where to begin looking. He's not listed in the (very poor) database the cemetery has. > > I'd appreciate any and all suggestions. Thanks - > > Important Note: > The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Some Cemeteries have online databases. If you give me your grandfathers name and Cemtery I will look it up. Sometimes cemetery caretakers will know where someone is buried. If you have a date, they may have a handwritten record/book with the burial lot and info in it. ________________________________ From: CD Family <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Thu, December 31, 2009 4:48:40 AM Subject: Re: [NYQUEENS] Help me find the date my grandfather died Some Cemeteries have online databases. I agree with Bob. Call the cemetery. I have had great success with many of the cemeteries. The bigger cemeteries have their information computerized and it takes them a few minutes to do a look up. The other day, I decided to find my uncle who died in 1977. I knew he lived out in Long Island...either Nassau or Suffolk County. He was not military like his father and brother, who are buried in the L.I. National Cemetery. I know that out that way Pinelawn is a huge cemetery, so I took a shot in the dark and called Pinelawn. The woman on the phone gave me the exact location of my uncle's grave, the name of the funeral home and whatever info they had. With that, I contacted the funeral home and this opened another door for me. The funeral director gave me all the info he had. BUT, not all funeral homes will do this. I've had some that welcome those of us that do genealogy and others who will not give out info unless you are a direct descendant, which in this case (grandfather), you are.
