In case you are not familiar with the term! During WW II the Navy assigned some men to ride civilian Cargo ships and man a 5 inch Naval Gun usually mounted on a platform at the stern of the ship. If attacked by a surfaced submarine they could defend themselves. There was usually only enough men to handle the gun, ammunition and several work shifts or Watches as a work shift was called. These men were brave as earlier in the war many, many, ships were fired on and sunk. I believe there is an Armed Guard Association, whom may have some records. Don S USN Ret.
