If you know when and where he died, look in the newspapers at that time for an obituary. Obits generally list any spouse or children and possibly a sibling or two. This will give you a start in finding any family he left behind, which, if I'm reading your post correctly, is what you want to find. Also check with the cemetery and/or funeral home to see if they list any remaining family. His death certificate would lie the relative who provided any information for the certificate.
