You may be confusing fees for New York State (Albany) with New York City. They have separate holdings. An outline and current links: Certificates for most New York *State* locations *outside of New York City* are available for $22 from the NY State Dept. of Health in Albany. They charge more ($30) for a certified copy, but the higher price doesn't provide any additional information. Note that Albany doesn't have any New York City holdings, except for Queens and Staten Island certificates prior to 1898. <http://www.health.state.ny.us/vital_records/genealogy.htm> Older New York City vital records are $15 though the Municipal Archives. Many of these records -- indexes, certificates, registers -- have also been filmed by the FHC and a portion of them are indexed online at <http://www.italiangen.org/>. The archives recently raised their shipping charges, but they are reasonable. <http://www.ci.nyc.ny.us/html/records/html/vitalrecords/home.shtml> Newer New York City birth and death certificates are available for $15 from the New York City Dept. of Health. Birth certificates are under privacy restrictions. <http://www.nyc.gov/html/doh//html/vr/vrdappl-1.shtml> Newer New York City marriage licenses (1930+) are $15 from the City Clerk. <http://www.cityclerk.nyc.gov/html/marriage/records.shtml> At 03:00 AM 1/8/2010, you wrote: >The last time I ordered birth and marriage certificates from New >York Vital Records by mail in 2009, they were $28.00 each.
