I note that the familysearch transcriptions are far from perfect. The Italian Gen NYC vital index (http://www.italiangen.org/VRECLIST.stm) gives this record: Linders Carl, Jun 1 1901, Manhattan cert# 12037 bride: Nilson Eva M L. Just found mention of the wedding in fultonhistory.com If you want to, go to the site and in the search box put in: william peckholdt for type of search choose : exact search - this brings up a mention in the Nov. 27, 1915 Brooklyn NY Daily Star. - "William Peckholdt and Miss Grace Abrams, both of Jamaica, were married by the Rev. Augustus P. Corliss at the Van Alst Ave. Methodist Episcopal parsonage, Long Island City on Nov. 22nd." (They misspelled the pastor's 1st name). So the couple were married at the parsonage rather than a Church wedding. The street names for the Church were later changed. Van Alst Ave. and eleventh Street became 21st Street and 45th Rd. Good luck. Kit Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Corliss was pastor of the Van Alst Avenue Methodist Episcopal Church, Van Alst Ave. and Eleventh St., Long Island City, Queens. I found this in a 1916 article in the Brooklyn NY Daily Eagle on fultonhistory.com. In this article (which had a photo of the pastor), it said that the minister had accepted an invitation by the church board to serve another year at the church, and this (1916) was his 2nd year of service. Hope this helps. Kit in New Hampshire Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Since the W.P.A. Survey didn't give a location for the records, and that church was still open at that time (c1940), I assume that the church had custody of the records in c1940. And since your email suggests that the church still exists. I would assume that they still have custody. You might try a letter addresses directly to the minister. You might also want to contact Drew university which is, or was, a repository for the methodist church and ask them: [1]http://www.drew.edu/library/methodist jim -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Re: [NYQUEENS] Help Identifying Queens Church From: Dee <[2]deesgenes1@yahoo.com> Date: Wed, April 25, 2012 6:14 pm To: "[3]nyqueens@rootsweb.com" <[4]nyqueens@rootsweb.com> My family belonged to that church too. That sounds better than what I had as my source (WPA Guide to Meth Churches of NYC) said Augustin P. Corliss was the present minister (c1940) at the first Meth. of Queens Gardens.
If you go to the following web-page, at the bottom of the page is an Index of ministers for the Methodist Church and Augustin P. Corliss is named in entries 6 and 153. [1]http://nycnuts.net/genealogy/church/wpa_methodist/index.html On the above given web-page entry number 6 (Mutual Assistance Society) and entry number 153 (First Methodist of Springfield Gardens) can be found on page numbers 34 and 119-120. Hi list, for those with English ancestors, the Yesterdays site has been updated with further school admissions of pupils from across the British Isles. Glossop, Melbourne and Etwall school also showing pupils with American connections. There are of course further records listed with persons with connections to America. Link below, if it fails Google Yesterdays Journey. mike -- http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~spire/Yesterday/index.htm
