Geoff Rasmussen, one of the developers of Legacy Family Tree software, told us about this in one of our classes. He had used it when he read some local cemeteries in Surprise, AZ. He said it's very easy. The info is immediately sent out the billiongraves site and someone downloads it, transcribes it, and enters it into the database. There were a few things he didn't like and said he still prefers Find A Grave. I looked in his blog at legacyfamilytree.com to see if I could find more info on it, but I couldn't. I'm sure he'd answer your question if you email him through the website. Just don't expect an answer for a few weeks as he just left on the Legacy cruise. Although my family was very faithful to NY by always coming back, I am finding periods of times where I cannot find them and I do have some indications that they may have been in these other states or in upstate NY. Since I am unfamiliar with what is available in these other states, I was hoping someone on the lists could guide me. I tried doing a gogle search, but I haven't been very successful in finding sites like we have for NY. I am guessing I am not searching in the right places. Any help? Go to the following link where you can find an online version of the book, Guide to historical resources in Queens County, New York, repositories. Hopefully you'll find something on coroner's reports there. Just some thoughts.... I would bet that the Coroner's that served Long Island City were under the jurisdiction of the Queens County. If you visit the NYPL on Fifth Ave and 42nd you might check the W.P.A guidie, AKA Historical Records Survey, for their volume on NYC Vital Records.---I would think it sould include Coroner's Reports for Queens County if those records had existed at the time (c1940). While at the NYPL you should also check the guides, by various authors, of Genealogical records pertaining to new York City---ask the reference desk for those books. You might also check the library catalog for Queens College which is, or at one time was, a repository for New York city records. -------- Original Message -------- Subject: [NYQUEENS] Coroner's Reports From: "[1]gc-gateway@rootsweb.com" <[2]gc-gateway@rootsweb.com> Date: Wed, May 09, 2012 3:01 pm To: <[3]NYQUEENS-L@rootsweb.com> This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list.
