Here are several things you might do: (l)Call the cemetery and ask the address where she died, undertaker's name and address, as they may still be in business.(2) If it is a LI municipality it can be confusing as to where to contact. So, email the geographic expert, Walter, at Soyamaven@aol.com. (3)Some psych hospitals, such as Rockland State, hold the DC, not the town. They are uncooperative even to direct descendants.(4)To avoid this, you can file a DC request through Albany.Their site states the waiting period is several months, but if your request is hand delivered [been there, done that],the wait period is about 6 weeks. Remember though, staff is usually lower due to summer vacations. I will be going to Albany this summer to file requests in person. If you need to, contact me offlist. For many Octobers, an annual one-day conference was held, sponsored by a NYC professional organization. The GGG and IGG were just a few of the groups who had booths there, and they offered a choice of meeting topics. Does anyone know more details about the event mentioned in the URL below? http://blog.eogn.com/eastmans_online_genealogy/2012/08/the-genealogy-event-i n-new-york-city.html It isn't very clear who's sponsoring it, or its agenda. Thanks, Barb
Hi Jim, In 1898 Queens became part of Greater NYC, which would make these folks easier to locate in Directories. Just a thought. Thanks Steve... I really appreciate your effort on my behalf! However, I pretty much have all the census and vital records for these people---though I wish I had more church records. The intent of my post was to try and locate descendants of these people so I could share what I have already foumd. Again, I really do appreciate the time you took to find these records for my bebefit! Gratefully Yours, Jim PS... I had mistakenly said it was Amelia MAXWELL who married Joseph EDGERLEY, but her name was actually Amanda. -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Re: [NYQUEENS] Seeking Descendants of MAXWELLs From: [1]imock98@aol.com Date: Wed, August 01, 2012 12:44 pm To: [2]nyqueens@rootsweb.com The 1880 census reveals: Amelia A.
