As you can see, the document is not in the best condition. I have kept it in a dark place so the writing does not fade any more. It doesn't look like there is any address under the reverend's name. I checked the W.P.A. guides to the various Churches found here: [1]http://nycnuts.net/ Each volume has an index of ministers associated with individual churches and I checked all these volumes (Presbyterian, Reformed, Lutheran and Methodist), but saw no listing for rev. Tuthill. There are volumes for the Roman Catholic and the Episcopal Church, but they don't include the Boroughs of Queens and Brooklyn (I did check for the name Tuthill in the other Boroughs, but found nothing). Volumes for these boroughs and for Long Island have been Published, but I doubt they are online. However, you might try searching for these books, or the name of that minister, at [2]http://www.hathitrust.org/ using the search term "Historical Records Survey." -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Re: [NYQUEENS] Rev. Put the document on a printer and adjust the color to darker, the font just may pop out. Also, have you looked for the same in any historical newspapers? Are you certain that the middle initial is "T?"\ BTW you might brose the TUTHIL surname Message Board and learn something. The estate was left to two people, a sister and a niece. There were other siblings and nieces/nephews - each of these people (most of them women)weren't left anything but each were asked - "were they in military service of the United States Government in any capacity whatever and they replied that they were not, nor had they received notice of induction, nor were they in the service of any allied nation." Why would they be asked this? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. My father had this certificate in his possession, but the name of the church is no where on the certificate. It lists both bride and groom and where they are from, the date of the ceremony, the witnesses, and the church official. Since it says Rev. (Reverend) I am assuming it was from a church. If they married in Queens County, in 1915, a pre-marriage license was required by NYC; this is separate from a civil marriage certificate which would be filed post marriage event. Licenses were required from 1908-1951. Marriage Licenses are searchable in person and cannot be ordered by mail, at the Archives. They were married on 20 February 1915 witnessed by Charles W. Murdock and Marion Denton. It was officiated by Reverend J. R. Tuthill (I think the spelling is correct, however the document is quite faded). The name of the church is not on the certificate and I have not been able to find a certified document number for this couple. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I assume it was in Queens as that is where they both lived. Regards, Michele Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. What went onin the past is not the issue, it's the laws regarding medical privacy that are fouling up genealogical research. So Andy CUOMO won't be standing against that one! In many cases the institutions hold the death certificates, not the municipalities. Rockland State is known for this. However, Albany does have death certificates, but ordered by mail the wait time is now 6-8 months for a gnealogical copy over 50 years old. However, if the request is hand delievered, as I've done, you usually get a copy in 1-2 months. I'll be going up there soon, if anyone has requests to get.
