    1. [NYQUEENS] ordering SS and death records
    2. According to the ancestry.com SSDI data Joseph Brown, born 19 March 1900, died Feb 1966 in Far Rockaway, NY 11697 I'd love to have not only his SS-5 but also his death record. Maybe then I'd be able to locate his grave. Some of the cemeteries have so much info to share! I've been researching for longer than I can remember and I don't recall being aware that there was a long form that I could request! I do seem to recall asking for any information they might have about another family member and they very nicely sent me some weird form I hadn't seen before and said there were no other records. FWIW I've been told Joseph's wife Margaret was very active in her local community. 1. Re: [NYQUEENS] ordering SS and death records
    2. Hi Kathy and all, The form you want is the SS-5 Application Form . It is recomended that you request the longer form, which provides more genealogical information. You are better offf applying with the Social Security number, and the Ancestry SSDI can be provided for proof that the person in fact died. Take care, Barb Metro NYC Research =========== MizScarlettNY@aol.com writes: > > Hi Kathy, > > Do you know that your guy in fact died in 1966, at this location? > > You shouldn't have to don't have to supply too much information, as I've > done this before, and the price was $29.00. 2. Hi Kathy, Do you know that your guy in fact died in 1966, at this location? You shouldn't have to don't have to supply too much information, as I've done this before, and the price was $29.00. It does give you information about his first job and employeer. Why don't you send the name and I'll look at it and send you a response? I'm 95% certain thatyou do not need a death certificate, if it is the legitimate place. Take care. 1. [NYQUEENS] Burials at "CITY CEMETERY" or "POTTERS FIELD?"
    2. After viewing 15 microfilmed, Manhattan death certificates of babies circa 1920, I was shocked that the burial location of the majority was "City Cemetery." According to one of the pros, that means Hart Island. Melinda Hunt began the Hart Island Project that you can check out at http://hartisland.net/wwwebs/ It's a pretty sad place. Disintegrated and missing records. Mass burials. Unmarked graves. Since the Department of Corrections' prisoners do the burying, visiting there is problematic. Impoverished children and adults were buried here. Babies who died at New York Foundling were buried here, as were babies of unwed or young mothers. If you have a death certificate with City Cemetery or Potters Field stamped on it, please submit the information to the Hart Island Project using the form at> http://www.hartisland.net/wwwebs/Contact/tabid/134/Default.aspx ( You may need to register to submit.) Please include, in this order, the following: County of Death: Date of Death: Certificate Number: Name of Deceased: Age at Death: Parents' Names and/or relatives names of deceased Your name and email address This is one of those ongoing project where you can make a difference! 2. Dee
    3. My mother, Katharine Arthur, passed away last August.  Someone from one of the NYC newspapers called me asking for information as they wanted to do a story about her.  Her family were early Queens County settlers.  The woman was supposed to send me a copy, but never did, nor did she answer my phone calls.  I've just spoken to someone who read the story so now I know it was published.  I've tried searching on the Fulton website but could find nothing.  Does anyone have another idea I could try, or if you can find it, send a copy to me?
