I need help knowing where to go next. I found and paid for the Civil War military records of Robert Meiklehaugh for Co B & Co I NY Heavy Artillery from the Washington DC National Archives. I also found some info about him in the New York Civil War Muster Roll Abstracts - Military 1862 NY. http://dmna.ny.gov/historic/mil-hist.htm His general info is: Robert Melckechaugh [It also is deciphered as- Mcickelhaugh]; b. abt 1829 Edingburgh, Scotland, age 34, Occupation: Gardener I want to know if I should go to the NY Civil War site and see if they have any more info about this man. This will cost for EACH name I search for. One of my problems is that there have been about 6 spellings of his name in the few pieces of military papers that I have seen. How many times would I have to look for it??? AND Would there be any more information than what I saw on ancestry (listed above)? NEED ADVICE. Thanks, Cindy in Tennessee
Are there any other lists of Civil War veterans buried at other (Queens or Kings Counties) NY? This is a real find... I am looking for the resting place of a Robert Meiklehaugh who was a member of NY Co B 13 Reg Heavy Artillery and transferred to Co I 6th Reg NY Heavy Artillery and may have died in Nov 1896... Need help finding WHEN and WHERE he was buried... THANKS FOR POSTING THE NAMES. -----Original Message----- From: nyqueens-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:nyqueens-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of MizScarlettNY@aol.com Sent: Wednesday, October 10, 2012 12:27 AM To: NYQUEENS@rootsweb.com Subject: [NYQUEENS] CIVIL WAR vets at St. Paul's Cemetery, Mt. "Ronnie" Renaldo Birth: Jun. 4, 1948 Death: Dec. 4, 1973 Ronnie was a friend of mine when I lived in Brunswick, GA back in the early 1960's. I lost touch with him after I went into the military in 1966. I learned in 2011 that he had been killed in a drive-by shooting. In the wrong place at the wrong time. At least that's what I was told. He's listed on the Social Security Death Index, but the entry didn't indicate where he was living at the time of his death. However, information gleaned from Ancestry.com indicates his last residence was Virginia. Ronnie was originally from New York state. Ronnie served in the military, branch unknown. The Department of Veterans Affairs BIRLS Death File, lists his enlistment Date as 6 June 1968 and his release Date as 1 June 1971. Ronnie had two sisters. Robin was older, and Randi was younger. Ronnie had also told me that he was adopted. He told me that his original last name was Drust. I'd just like to know what became of an old friend.
