I have been looking in Bklyn since all other HEELY records / addresses pertain to Bklyn. However I just found her baptism cert from St Elizabeths RC parish in Woodhaven, Long Island, from 1-21-1893. Where would I look for her birth cert if I can't find it in Bklyn? I have researched this twice at NYC Municipal Archives with no luck. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/WUB.2ACI/1245.1 Message Board Post: On 11/6/04 (4:05:34 PM MST), in a posting to the Queens County Ancestry Board that was 'gatewayed' to NYQUEENS-L@rootsweb.com, Mark Foster (ny2obx@aol.com) asked, "I have been unable to find birth cert of my gm Mary Agnes HEELY, b. 1-20-1893. Circa 1893, Woodhaven was a Hamlet in the Town of Jamaica in Queens County. Thus, a birth certificate, if issued, would be with the Town Clerk for the Town of Jamaica. Please be aware that it would be some 5 years before this part of Queens County became part of New York City. My family has several plots there that they have owned since 1902. The last burial was in the 1980's. I know they did not have accurate records nor do they notify you before removing a head stone or repairing one that may be sinking. I hope you have a positive experience.

There are seven burials in adjoining graves, from 1943 through 1997. Since they are contemporary, I am hoping there is at least one or two headstones. I understand from the office that the cemetery is approximately 55 acres. Thank you, Beverly G. Kirby-McDonough

Your request with an $8 check payable to Queens Library must go to: Long Island Division, Queens Borough Public Library, 89-11 Merrick Blvd., Jamaica NY 11432. If you send to the Flushing Library branch, they cannot handle it and they must forward it to the Central Library for action.

Most libraries have newspapers on microfilm and they will do a search for you for a fee. If it is the main library of Queens than I know the charge is $8.00 for the search. Just write a letter to them or go to www.google.com and find the address and hopeful at the site there is a email that you can use. I hope this is of some help to you.
