    1. HELP-NOT RECEIVING ROOTS-L & NYC-ROOTS MAILING LIST
    2. On 11/10/2004 (3:45:09 PM MST), Jan (Soszkaej@aol.com) asked, "Can anyone help me out?  For the last 2 week I have NOT received any mailings from the above 2 subject rootsweb.com mailing list.  I even put all my SPAM setting on off, still nothing. Can anyone fill me in on the problem & let me know if they are having a problem too." You should always check with: http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/ Their latest update on the problem: One of our mailing list servers (LISTS5) is partaking in conniptions of a disruptive nature. This server is off-line for maintenance. Updated information:: Wednesday - no further information to hand The initial problem has been identified and resolved, however, the initial problem caused subsequent problems to digests and the overall fix is going to take a little longer to achieve. Trust us that we don't like the beast being off-line and we are endeavouring to get it back as soon as we can. The current estimate of the time that the server will be off-line is another day or two. At this time, please do not contact the HelpDesk if you are not receiving email. We do mean this and the continuing number of messages asking this exact question is staggering. If you are not receiving the email that you expect to receive, odds-on it is due to the server being off-line. If you wish to check your list subscriptions, please visit the normal place Password Central (http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/). I hope this information is useful or, at least, interesting. Surnames: Adago, Salatti Classification: Census Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/WUB.2ACI/1248.1 Message Board Post: Michelle, The Ellis Island records list Nicola as 7 years old at the time of immigration in 1902, suggesting that she may have been born in 1894/1895. I wonder whether you already have the 1910 census on "John" & Isabella Adago's family. It lists a 19-year-old son Emanuel (is this Archimede?), as well as 16-year-old Geraldine. Isabelle's entry indicates that she has borne 10 children, only 3 of them still living in 1910. Isabella's brother Domenico is also living in the household. Good luck with your research on Nicola.

The New York library has not found an obit for William. I do not have family members to check with. Does anyone have any ideas of how I could find the burial place of William Kramer? I so appreciate any ideas. Thank you. Kay

    3. Hi, Gwen and Diane: Actually, civil registration began state-wide in 1881. Diane is correct. If they were Catholic, they may have ignored this and deferred to the church for the record of baptism. BUT, what you should do is check the NYS Birth Index (not NYC). Queens was not yet a part of NYC in 1893. The birth may have been registered with the State. Although the Municipal Archives does have some of the Queens "Town" records pre-consolidation, I have found records in the State Index where none were found in the indexes at the MA. Just a thought. Best regards. Nancy.

    1. RE: [QUEENS] Location of birth records for Woodhaven area in 1893 please.
    2. Diane Jacobs
    3. Gwen, Unfortunately, birth registration was not required at that time And sometimes a midwife would just "forget" to register a birth. Also, if the family was Catholic it was deemed unimportant to have a civil registration as only a church record was important. I have researched this twice at NYC Municipal Archives with no luck. Thanks Mark I would look in the town in the immediate area of the parish in which she was baptised. It was traditional in those days that the first time the baby left its birthplace was to go to the church for its baptism and that was as soon as possible after birth (to minimise the possibility of it dying unbaptised) Women often went "home to mother" to give birth or if that was not possible to some supportive female usually a relative and if that was at some distance from where they lived that often was where the baptism took place. 1. Telephone Book
    2. Looking for the address and telephone number for a 1957 listing. Not sure which borough it is in, not sure of the actual address nor if this is the right way to go about doing this particular research. Looking for Thomas Francis Ryan and Marilyn Ryan. She died suddenly in 1958 - her maiden name was RUPPERT - all searches in that direction have failed. Thomas's parents lived in Woodhaven, Queens, at the time and a brother lived in Bellrose at the time (maybe a clue). Hoping an address and telephone number will narrow things down. Thanks, Cathy

I can't comment on 'Mespath Kills', but the Town of Newtown, one of the original 5 towns when Queens County was created on November 1, 1683, would include the current neighborhoods of Long Island City, Astoria and Elmhurst, as well as Maspeth and other nearby neighborhoods.
