    1. Letter of administration
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Hendrickson, Valentine Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/WUB.2ACI/1303 Message Board Post: I was recently at the Queens County Surrogates Court looking for a will and found that the only thing available was a letter of administration. After locating it the librarian over at Queensboro informed me that they should also have "attachments" to the letter of administration or a "bond" which would allow me to find out what happened to the estate. When I went back to the Surrogates court they didn't seem interested in helping me. When I asked how I could find those records ...all they had to say was "you would know better than us". Maybe I am just not asking for the right thing. Would anyone know what I am talking about and how I can locate these records. thanks.

Surnames: DeVenuto, Ladiso Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/WUB.2ACI/1302 Message Board Post: Im trying to find what happened to my great-granfather. He came to US in 1899 (I dont know how). All I know is that he lived in Middletown CT per the 1910 Census with wife Laura, 4 children and father-in-law, Joseph Ladiso. Someone found him in the 1911 directory in Middletown CT in 1911. Then he disappears..... The only other thing I know is his wife shows up in 1914 when she remarried in New York..... there are 2 different rumors.... 1 is he went crazy and died ??? Not sure what that means and the other is he committed suicide..... But I cannot find any death cert info..... Not sure if he just left CT or followed her to NY....... Can anyone suggest anything??? Thanks

    1. Newtown Creek
    2. Following up with some more information about the ongoing discussion about Newtown Creek in the 1600s as originally posted on 2/3/05 (1:11:32 PM MST), in a posting to NY-LONGISLAND-L@rootsweb.com, wherein Terri (taire@webtv.net) asked, "Wondering if anyone can enlighten me concerning Newton Creek, LI. Apparently, it existed back in the 1660's." In addition to pointing out that Newtown Creek is in northwest part of Long Island and, circa the latter part of the 17th century, was the border separating the Town of Bushwick in Kings County from the Town of Newtown in Queens County ... According to a posting by Ned Smith (ehlsmith@worldnet.att.net) in March 2002 to the Suffolk County Rootsweb, in the 1600s there was a 'Newtown' area in the Town of Brookhaven: "It was mostly early records from the 1600s which referred to a Newtown area in the Town of Brookhaven. The name fell out of use soon after. As you say, it was never a postal address, nor was it an official jurisdiction." Ned also made a second posting, " ... (T)here is a neighborhood called Newtown in the Hampton Bays area of the Town of Southampton." Separately, I've asked my contact at the Suffolk County Planning Department if he can shed any light on this 'other' Newtown that was in the Town of Brookhaven. I hope this information is useful or, at least, interesting. Regards, Walter Greenspan

    2. Thanks, but I am in California and nearly blind. I am new to this list so maybe it is too soon to make a judgment but compared to the lists in Ohio there does not seem to be one person willing to even do a lookup for anyone. Maybe all of the worker bees are having a first of the year break.
