Hi Arlene, I spent the first fifty years of my life on the Rockaway peninsula (which is only about 12 miles long) and know where St John's Home for Boys is located. I went to high school (1957 - 1961) at Stella Maris High School, right across the street from St. John's and both of them were located on the 'boardwalk', facing the ocean. It was a great place to grow up but of course, I was not living in a 'convalescent home'. I believe that Stella Maris was once a hotel and may have been an orphanage as one time, too. I hope this helps a little in your research. Pat McHale

Could someone lookup an obituary for ANNA MARIE DOYLE for me? I believe she may have died on or about 31 March 1917. She died in New York City. I don't know where. Her last known address was listed in the QUEENS 1910 U.S. Census. The street she lived on looks like BLEECKER AVENUE. She is listed in the 1910 census with her husband, PATRICK DOYLE, and two daughters. Thank You. I appreciate the help. Don Weaver, OK dhweav@gbronline.com
Appreciate any Obit information from the "Brooklyn Daily Eagle"; or the "Long Island Daily Star"; or other newspapers; or headstone information from the Bayside Cemetery, Ozone Park, NY concerning the following husband and wife: Neiman/Niman LITTERY, age 83? at his death on June 6, 1923; buried June 7, 1923 at Bayside Cemetery. Jeanette LITTERY, age 64? at her death on August 2, 1916; buried August 4, 1916 at Bayside Cemetery. Thank you very much. George Houston

Pat, this may very well be your RHG in the 1866-67 Brooklyn Directory; it is the only GADD listing: Gadd Henry, shipmaster, h De Kalb av. n. Throop av. The listing says that his house (h) was on De Kalb avenue near (n) Throop avenue. I'll take a quick look at the NY Times, too, and will post again if I find anything. M

Hello NYQUEENS list; I am searching for information on PATRICK DOYLE and ANNA MARIE FOLEY who were married in the NEW YORK CITY area in about 1905. Patrick was born in the New York City area in about 1884 or 1885. Anna was born in the same area at about the same time. The PARENTS of both Patrick and Anna migrated to the U.S. from IRELAND and lived in the NEW YORK CITY area. I believe Anna died in New York, (maybe the Bronx) in about 1917. Anna and Patrick are listed in the 1910 U.S. Census, Queens, with 2 children, HELEN, and LILLIAN. Anna later had a third child, MARIE. I would really like to learn all I can about Patrick, Anna, there children and their Parents. They may have been married in the Catholic Church. Birth records, marriage records, Anna's death record would be great. I would appreciate any information on these good people. Thank you. The current official City of New York directory (the Green Book) lists the Queens Borough location of the NYC Office of the Chief Medical Examiner as Queens General Hospital, 82-64 164th St. & Goethals Ave., Jamaica NY 11432. It appears that each of the boroughs/counties of the City of New York still has its own morgue/mortuary, per the Green Book.

Hello rooters, My father was in the Convalescent Home for Hebrew Children in 1928. I thought the home was gone but have recently found that it is now the St. John's Home for Delinquent Boys in Rockaway Park. It is on Beach 111th Street. Does anyone have knowledge of this home, either in the past or present? Does anyone live near it that could take a picture for me? I would love to have more information about this place. Thanks so much. Arlene Dunkum Colonial Heights, Virginia

The Queens Mortuary was located on the Queens General Hospital campus at 160th St. & Goethals Ave. in Jamaica. Most people called it the Queens County Morgue and once was under the jurisdiction of the county coroner for a number of years - now the morgues come under the Officer of the Chief Medical Examiner of the City of New York. You may be able to get further information from the NYC website, or from the Municipal Archives. Good luck.
