Bond. I do have his information from census records in Queens from 1850-1880. Walter was born in England about 1833. He may or may not be a Walter Bond who came to N.Y. as a child in 1837. In the 1850 census of Hempstead, Queens he was living with Zachary Story and his family. In 1860 he was listed as head of his own household and he was a farmer. He had married by then to Louisa Jackson who was apparently born in New York. I fdo not have the date or place of their marriage. I do not yet have either Walter or Louisa'a parents. In the 1880 census Walter's occupation is said to be House carpenter. he and Louisa had the following children: William, Robert A.(my 2nd great-grandfather), Millard Fillmore, Annie E., Frankin Joseph, John B., Seaman Lewis and Clara E. Bond. We all know how difficult it is not to have the 1890 census! Walter has died by 1900, as Louisa is listed as a widow in the 1900 Census of New York, living in Nassau County with one of her sons. I have more on their children. I would like more information on Walter. Thank you for any help. God bless, Beth

    3. Gail, I am a bit dumbfounded by your words whether they were intended as a criticism of me personally or not. I have praised the people who work so hard to compile these lists time and time again. It is an unquestionable incredible source that has made family history much easier for many of us. I myself have volunteered to transcribe data not because it is an easy job to do or I have time on my hands but as a way of showing my appreciation for what has been done and to help fellow researchers. My intent was solely to point out the need for everyone using data bases to LOOK and READ the entire website or webpage before you begin typing in names. NOT ALL YEARS are included especially for QUEENS. If you don't look first to see what years are covered you are wasting your time and setting yourself up for disappointment. My research has become limited to what I can find on the net or what I can get by writing letters and so on. I can no longer go to the FHC and have to rely on the talents, knowledge and generosity of others to break down my brick walls. To be honest, I am not sure if anyone appreciates what the men and women who work so hard to put records on the net more than I do. Have a good day. Elizabeth V. 3. They state that they were both married at age 18. Anthony was age 37 on the 1930 Census and Mabel was 38. If you have exact dates of birth, you should be able to figure out when they were both 18. 3. I am posting this, not as a personal criticism of Elizabeth, but as a caution to all of us. The statement >>I am hoping that someday they will have all dates for all counties.<<, cause me to take pause because the information transcribed on the death database is there because of those who take the time, on a voluntary basis to do so. If the >>good friend and formidable researcher <grin><< had transcribed some of the page by page information that was looked at, it would add to the wealth of free records available to search.... I understand what Elizabeth feels and why she feels it, and I am sure she meant nothing by writing it, but I believe that we should all be cautious about what they write, as it appears to sound not appreciative of what HAS been already done for us all. Just my 2 cents.... I live in Flushing & Mt. St. Mary's is the only Catholic cemetery I know of here, but usually only locals (or decendents of) would be buried there. I know of several Brooklynites buried in St. John's, Middle Village, Queens, not far from the Brooklyn border. Why do you think it's Flushing? Send along some more info & I'll see what I come up with. You can e-mail me directly if you like.

However, it seems everywhere I turn there's that darned brick wall smacking me. Somewhere & sometime I know I must connect...hoping that I might run into someone out there that has all the info I need. until then, I'll keep digging away. Thanks for taking the time to send me the info. Yes, they were Catholic ~ so possibly there MAY be a Catholic church in that area ( Queens) that was operating at that time. although their first son was baptised at 13 days old in Catholic church at Chatham, Ontario, Canada...so I may not even be searching in correct area. its just that I found someone by same name as my G. Grandmother in Queens Co. in 1850 ~ the year before my Grandfather William was born... so I was hoping. & Thanks again, Lois

    3. Based on the obituary I have for Catherine Mc Elroy, it will serve me no purpose to pursue her. The obit shows she is survived by an only son and my great grandfather. I know all of her descendants. What I was hoping to find may have been more information on a passenger list such as we find on those who came through Ellis Island. A quick check on the other lists had me soon realizing the mystery I am trying to solve....will not be solved on this side of the Pond. Even cousins living in Ireland cannot locate the actual place of birth of my great grandfather and his brother and sisters. Seems like no one is willing to say they are living "on the old place" for fear of having to share it <grin> Thanks again everyone. Elizabeth V. 3. Today, thanks to a wonderful friend, I finally have the death certificate for my great aunt Catherine Gallagher Mc Elroy who died in 1900. Place of death was Long Island City...118 Kent Street or Avenue. She was the widow of John Mc Elroy. Her death certificate reads that she was in the US for 10 years. I was so excited I forgot that Ellis Island did not open until 1892. My questions: 1. Is anyone searching this family? 2. Any suggestion as to how to find her passenger record? Thank You Elizabeth V. 3. Elizabeth-- >>Thank You for the information. At the risk of sounding cheap, >>which I am not, right now I could use some free help. You don't have to buy those resources. You can access many of them at libraries and Family History Centers. Also, when an informant for a death certificate says the decedent has been here for 10 years, that's very likely an estimate rather than a fact--it's still worth a shot to look at Ellis Island. Otherwise, try the Immigrant Ship Transcribers Guild--their site is a pain to navigate, but sometimes you find what you're looking for.
