    3. Using www.findagrave.com the closest Woodlawn Cemetery I could find is indeed in the Bronx. Does the death cert just say Woodlawn and no town? You may want to check their listings. It is not unusual for people to be buried. Perhaps the family owned a plot there. Call or write to the cemetery ...they will not only verify his burial but tell you who else is buried there. Good Luck Elizabeth V. Cardinal evc1369@comcast.net

    3. There's only one Woodlawn Cemetery in New York City, Jacqui, and it's the one in The Bronx! He may have been buried at Woodlawn because his parents or other family members had a large plot at Woodlawn---this was not an uncommon occurrence. Call Woodlawn's Office--they are quite helpful, and you might learn who else is buried in the grave where George is--it's worth a call! Good luck, Jim Garrity Jacqi Stevens wrote: > I just received the death cert for my great-aunt's husband, George > Washington KOBER, d April 10, 1932, at his home on 96th Street, in > Woodhaven. 3. I just received the death cert for my great-aunt's husband, George Washington KOBER, d April 10, 1932, at his home on 96th Street, in Woodhaven. The only reason I sent for it, since I already know his other info, was to find out where he was buried, in hopes that his wife Rose (who is one of my brick wall relatives) will also be buried there (I can't even find her date of death, let alone date of birth, and I'm concerned that she might have gotten remarried after Kober's death, but can't find her in any marriage index, either). The cemetery listed was Woodlawn. I figured it would also be in Queens, since the KOBER family was from Manhattan, Rose's family moved from Bklyn (Kings) and resettled in Queens. But the only Woodlawn cemetery I am finding is for one in the Bronx. Is this really it? Is it usual for people living in Queens to be buried in the Bronx? Or is there a cemetery w that name closer to home? Also, the undertaker signed as Charles William Brome on Woodhaven Blvd. Does anyone know of a funeral home with that name or at that address? Thx in advance for any help. Jacqi

    3. FYI, this book covers only Old Calvary (aka Calvary 1), and not Calvary 2, 3 or 4. The author transcribed headstones that named a specific place of birth. The great majority are Irish, but there are a handful from other countries. She also included very worn and eroded stones, veterans of Civil and Spanish American wars, and a few of "special interest." The book is expensive, but you might urge your local genealogy society to buy it for their local history collection. 3. Hello Elizabeth Just had a look at all the Mount Olivet cemeteries but his name hasn't come up. The funeral service was held in at a church in Brooklyn and I assumed that the Olivet was the one in Queens. But now, I have no idea. 3. Peter, You will have to find his death certificate or an obituary. Without his date of death it is almost impossible to locate a grave in any cemetery. Do you know where someone close to him is buried and either the grave number or their date of death? If you do you could send for the list of interments in that grave. Keep trying. Elizabeth V. I've broken my scans into four printable sections, and yours would be on the left panel of Calvary 2, 3 and 4. Calvary 1 is also known as Old Calvary. The ranges in section 15 go from right to left on this map (from 1 to 44). So you can estimate where range 35 is. One thing that confuses me is that it looks to me like section 15 has numbered (not lettered) plots. Are you certain that Plot S is not Plot 5? Patty Fagan

    3. During the course of my research I came across the death of an ancestor by the name of Charles McMURRAY in 1909 and is buried in Mount Olivet Cemetery. I have no plot number, and don't know if there even is a gravestone. Is there anyone in the district that could point me in the right direction to find any info on this man? I would also love a picture of the Cemetery and of course the stone if there is one. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Best wishes Peter Scarborough (UK)
