Many of you have kindly let me know that this list is active and that you will help me to the best of your ability. I am not a novice genealogist but have heard many conflicting things about Queens Co records over the years. Also, this is really my first try at Queens research. I am looking for Administrations in the Surrogate's Office, NY, that were in something called File Box of Original Papers on Queens County (1787-1829). Are these at the Surrogate Court in Queens? In the NYC Municipal Archives? On film with LDS? I would like a copy of a letter supposedly in some estate papers from 1798. What is the best way to get this? I am working on the 18th century Wilkins family who probably originated in Brooklyn, moved to NYC as businessmen with ONE son, William Wilkins apparently marrying a Queens woman, Ann Thorne, and living as a farmer in Bayside. Now, PLEASE do not start googling and sending me stuff. I JUST want an answer to my question in the second paragraph. I don't mean to be rude, but I have been working on the Wilkinses for two decades and have: census records, Brooklyn book research, city directory entries, newspaper articles, marriage records, etc. My database is at rootsweb http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=winspeare&id=I2472 I have not uploaded William yet (as I want this proof from estate records), but he should be the third son of Jacob b ca 1735. He came to New york in 1909 and was a boarder of martha Grieger. martha Grieger , she was born in queens new york 1884, her 1st husbands name was alfred grieger , they had 3 daughters( martha, violet, and florence) . She became widowed around 1920.she died on feb. 3 1941. She married theadore johnson on may 16 1922. They had 2 children( edith and my grandfather theodore ).Theadore died in feb 7 1933 in queens new york. Martha johnson's parents were : Adolph sturtzebecher born in germany in 1849 , he married martha schmitz she was born in germany in 1860 . martha died in queens, new york on june 10, 1938 . I have my grandfather theodore's baby book from 1926 with names and dates filled out but i cannot find any info for his side of the family . i know his half sister violet and her husband took him in after his parents died.
