You may have already run across it, but Ferris was a common name in Fairfield County, CT and Westchester County, NY. I have a Ferris line - Elizabeth Ferris (dau. of Nathan) married John Waterbury 11 April 1782. I wouldn't be surprised if your Ferris's migrated north from Westchester into Putnam. There was a long article in "The American Genealogist" (TAG) on the Ferris family about ten to fifteen years ago. You might find it with Google or go to the TAG web site (I'm not sure of the address, but I'm sure Google would lead you there). If you can't find it, let me know and I'll see if I can find my photocopy of it.
