Samuel Smith (18 May 1737- Apr 1811) and wife Elizabeth (Lockwood) migrated from Stamford, CT to what is now Putnam Co., NY in 1785. The family settled in the Oscawana Lake area. Their son Lemuel (c1762/1775-14 Mar 1833) married Charity Kirkum and they inherited Samuel's farm in Oscawana Lake.
