The connection could have come through the Smith line especially if there was a Barger (or German Barager Connection) since the Baragers or Bargers were very early settlers who lived very close to the orginal inhabited Indian settlements in the Putnam Valley area per Pelletreau, "History of Putnam Valley." If the Baragers or some other families were displaced in the wars along the Rhine by Louis XIV (Hugenot) there may well have been minor German or German/French nobility settling in the Putnam Valley area.
