In the 1790 Census, for example, there is a Joshua listed in the list of Male heads of families (no women or children listed just a hatch mark for the number in each age and sex group living in the family) and there is also a Joshua, Jr. listed as a head of a family. Junior throws the effort awry :-( Was one of these the Tompkins Corner Joshua ? And how would either of these be related to Cornelius, Reuben, Nathaniel, et. al. I too have seen the Historical marker but that likely was initally placed in the early or mid 1900's and the Pelletreau Work is much closer to the sources (and Blake - if he has any original sources.) Blake's work is apparently available here on Ancestry.com. The corner stone of the Methodist Church should have a date on it - do you remember what date that might be. Many of the Stone and brick church structures replaced much earlier log or frame church structures. Pelletreau was reprinted as a definitive early history of Putnam County by the Landmarks Preservation Society, Brester, New York. I picked up my copy when at the County Records archives in Brewster several years ago. When I get opportunity that certainly will be a great resource center to revisit but much of the early Putnam County information needed is likely in the Historical archives of Dutchess County in Poughkeepsie. Will and land deeds, etc. would be very helpful. At any rate great to be sharing info with you. Regards, Rev. Steward Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
